SUPRA2012
Hi, does anyone know of a PROVEN and TRIED AND TESTED superchip or ECU upgrade/re-map etc for NON TURBO Supra Mk4's? No need to tell me 'get a twin turbo' etc etc, I am well aware that for real power gains forced induction is needed I would be happy to consider anything offering approx 20 bhp All I am after at this stage is something to combine with a quality air filter and quality exhaust system...like I had on my Porsche 944...I paid £50, and in conjunction with a £50 k n n filter, gained a noticable mid range urge and exhaust note! Any advice much appreciated

Supra Gaz
No chips! The only option is a damn good solid service and either a Mines ecu or similar, they are rare and fairly expensive for NA mods. I would double decat, manifold, decent three, brakes, strut braces, suspension and service, make it fun in the corners if not in a straight line! listy
It has two cat converters. And best intake is the stock air box with an aftermarket panel filter.

I don't think de-cat makes that much difference power wise, more throttle response I feel. Whifbitz do good decats, you can get various manifolds, god knows who makes them and which is best. The good old search button is best.

Al Massey
With an apexi hard pipe induction kit, double decat, autobahn manifold, 3" full exhaust system my car is quicker and has a better response compared to suprasteveo's standard NA Albeit it is a lot louder! But the response is so much better I do have a mines ecu but it needs a slight repair

And what is the total ish cost of all the bits you just mentioned? and does the MINES ecu only work in conjunction with the other bits and pieces? and what does it actually do? cost wise, I think i can buy a 1jz tt for around £700, and about the same again to install it. which doesnt seem bad value. but then i have to upgrade the brakes and suspension.... I'd imagine the cost would be similar if not more if you were to buy a mines ECU and full exhaust system. You don't need to upgrade the brakes unless you are looking to do track days, possibly the suspension to take the extra weight of the engine. Did you mean a 1JZ, or a 2JZ which is the engine that mkiv supras were supplied with? A 1JZ is perfectly possible, there's a currently active thread discussing it, and several members use a 1JZ. I would guess it's a fair bit more work than fitting a superchip though (if one existed). As Abz said, changing the brakes isn't necessary, but you would need the proper ECU (and who knows what other supporting parts) to run the 1JZ engine. Have you considered the loom? You'd need to join the 1JZ loom to the 2JZ loom that's already in the car. This might be a simple job but you'd need to work out (or ask on here) how to do it. Graham1984
Mines ecu will cost around £300 ish and the normal things they come with are optimized fueling and timing maps making it more aggressive and will raise the redline by either 600-800 rpm more, you would need to run your car on v-power or similar due to it being mapped to 100 ron fuel. Paul whiffin will have his na manifold on sale soon which imo will be the best around as it will be made to fit and won't need persuading like many other manifolds due to it being made for a rhd car. The manifold 2nd decat combination with a catback could be very loud depending on your exhaust and love of noise although paul also sells a great twin box catback which will keep the noise in check. I hate to say it that modding the na is very expensive for little gain although I still love mine regardless of the money spent, make sure the car is in good shape first so maybe a good service plugs, cap and rotor arm, tyres fluids and O2's might be a good choice as well. - - - Updated - - - Mines ecu will cost around £300 ish and the normal things they come with are optimized fueling and timing maps making it more aggressive and will raise the redline by either 600-800 rpm more, you would need to run your car on v-power or similar due to it being mapped to 100 ron fuel. I am considering a 1jz engine...i think its better going down the 'tt swap' route, rather than n/a...i just thought if i could get 20ish bhp CHEAPLY it would do for the time being...but its not going to be cheap....thing is, i love the balance of the n/a...and linear power delivery...but the guy who i am going to have the conversion done is off this site...Matt Offland...so he should know what to do! lol.....i emailed him yonks ago, but have been 'umming and rrring' for ages now....but now have come accross what looks to be a decent and cheap! 1jz..i will get hold of the engine first and then email him....cheers for help
Scutch0
I have a Chris Wilson first decat on my n/a and I thought it made a nice difference, definitely a lot 'free-er' top end. Only downside is the extra noise, it's radically louder with my nur spec. I have a k&n filter on mine and although it's not as torquey as the stock air box it sounds great at high revs and seems to pull harder at high revs too. Nic
A Blitz/SARD/Mines/TOMS ECU, aftermarket exhaust, tubular exhaust manifold and 2nd decat pipe should give you around 20+hp increase and make the car feel more responsive.

Hi, cheers...only thing is by the time i get all those bits, i will have spent near enough the same as an engine conversion to 1jz tt....n/a mods are not cost effective....i think thats my bottom line now... Your best speaking to someone that specialises in doing these swaps for a living! If it was power your wanting straight away then why didn't you just save up for a TT? How long have you had the car?
