Kaan W
Apon my quest to get rid of all the rust on my car I have found that the strip of metal that runs underneath the radiator is quite rusty and corroded. Im not sure of the name of this panel and how I go about replacing it as its spot welded in at each end. If I get a new one can I just chop out the rusty bit and weld the new bit on with a smear of body sealent?
safcdixon
I think someone (dunk i think?) did this not long ago best way is too replace the whole panel if its spot welded, patching is harder tbh
Kaan W
But if I get a second hand one with the spot already drilled out then where do I weld the new one in?
safcdixon
Just drill thespot welds out, the panel should then be free then spot weld your new panel in should be a peice of cake tbh

Dnk
A new panel from Toyota isn't silly money, approx £70. You could easily cut out the center section and replace it as long as the corrosion hasn't gone too far along it Edited July 27, 2012 by Dnk (see edit history)
Kaan W
Its dead in the middle about 8" accross and goes from the front to half way back on top. I would like to replace it but thought it would be easier to cut the middle out and spot weld a bit straight on top. Not sure if this is against MOT stuff tho... Dnk
You could probably get away with some box section, something like 2" x 1" (50mm x 25mm) in whatever length you need and as long as you overlapped it where you weld it then it would be strong enough.
