weskereric
I've some problems with a tiptronic box in a TT Supra. Revs are going up but the car is not going forward in any gear in auto and manual gear, it's like the "clutch" is slipping. Transmission fluid is ok so I'll try to totally flush the gearbox with the hope that it's just that. Could it be anything else except the fluid or changing the torque converter/gearbox ? I've heard about the gearbox speed sensor could failed and cause this problem... Thanks for your help guys
Swampy442
Drop the gearbox sump, replace/clean the gearbox filter, change the fluid.
weskereric
That's the first thing I was thinking to do, we'll see
Swampy442
You will go from slipping to no drive at all very quickly if you dont do it soon
L18msy
Had a automatic car in last week doing that and the gearbox fluid was low. I would drain the box and fill up with fresh stuff.

weskereric
Bad news: Toyota toldme that gearbox is dead, "there are some metallic noises when moving the selector inside the gearbox". I'll double check that but it's a strong possibility. In the case, I need to change it, is the tiptronic gearbox the same as the auto box or the same as the aristo tiptronic? They are all called A340E but each part number is different. Edited July 26, 2012 by weskereric (see edit history)

dan294
Similar mileage and set up to mine then. Worrying..!! I've hopefully got Martin doing a gearbox oil and filter change on mine in the next few weeks! Keep hearing these stories of auto boxes failing. Swampy442
60k indicated miles, as I always say never trust mileages unless backed up with a history. Not saying Toyota are wrong but I'd certainly get a second opinion
andz222
fully flush the torque converter

Martin did ours just before Dragonball. We have never had a hint of trouble but I am going to check the fluid when I next go out in it. H. Kirk
Of course. It was fairly clean from what I remember.
Havard
Of course. It was fairly clean from what I remember. I thought so. We just did the things that needed doing at the time. May be brakes, gearbox and diff next? H.
Kirk
Indeed it needed a service at the time, nothing more. If that's what you want to do just give us a shout

Chris Wilson
If the box has shrapnel in it you MUST renew the torque converter, the only way to get shrapnel out of them is to lathe them open, clean them out whilst dismantled, weld them back up and have them rebalanced on a special balancer. The cooler and lines needs removing from the car and flushing or changing for ones off a car that's not had any dramas. Once an auto box slips for more than a few seconds it's usually DEAD!
