I was informed that with ABS, do it with the engine running. I did and at worked fine, but I've not tried it without and haven't decided if there's any logic in it. Not REALLY. It is sometimes necessary to bleed in a certain order, and on UK cars with the ABS pump specially doctored to run all the time, if the fluid has been drained completely, or if because of the old "Sods Law" it is a PITA to get air out of.
