Chris Wilson
You MUST MUST MUST always leave the TC on the gearbox, if you try to leave it bolted to the flex plate and pull the box off the TC you will at the very least knacker the pump seal in the box, and quite probably knacker the pump as well. You can even knacker the TC itself, and bend the flex plate. This applies to 99% of automatic cars. Once the flex plate to TC bolts are out gently push the TC right into the gearbox itself, as far as it will go with your fingers. Don't let if fall out as you manoeuvre the gearbox out!! mclarenross
Hi guys, Sadly when I got my 1jzgte gearbox sent to me the the tc had already been taken out... We tried getting the gearbox on tonight by sliding the engine (with tc attached) on to the gearbox, but just could get it to marry up and fit... Rising stress levels we ended up just fitting the engine on it's mounts and dropping the gearbox out underneath, later this week we were going to put the tc on te gearbox end and try it that way... Is that the best way? Only issue I can see with that is that when offering up the gearbox to the engine it might not fit with the gearbox attached to the prop shaft... Any help would be appreciated !!
Chris Wilson
Did you not read my post regarding NEVER removing / fitting an engine or gearbox with the TC attached to the engine? You will almost certainly have knackered the gearbox oil pump seal, and MAY have damaged the oil pump itself, in the nose of the gearbox. The TC neck has two cut outs that drive dogs inside the oil pump. The reason the engine / box wouldn't mate up properly is these dogs were not aligned. You align them by VERY carefully fully supporting the TC and sliding and tuning it into the gearbox bellhousing, feeling for the slots / dogs to align and the TC to go fully home into the g/box. If you used much force at all to mate the two up when the slots / dogs were misaligned you may have broken the gearbox oil pump!!! BIG expense. you may have damaged the neck of the TC! You need to strip the pump out of the auto box and check it out. I'd let an auto box specialist do that.
