r2ck_p
Hi guys, I bought my 1996 Supra TT a few weeks ago and likely to be doing an oil change soon. Anyone got any thoughts on Castrol EDGE 10W-60, the chap I bought it from has ran it in the car for a while and says its the best oil available for the car. I have viewed a few forums on this and its a mixed bag, some saying its to thick and others says its one of the best oils available on the market for the Supra. What is everyone else using and what are your thoughts on Castrol EDGE 10W-60? Cheers Rick
Tyson
speak to opie he will be the best one to tell you as he has a knowledge of oils but I think it's too thick. But it all depends on the what power you are running and how you are using the supra.

Alex
Castrol is a good brand. The viscosity and sheer resistance (10w60) is perfect for our cars. Only an Ester based oil would be better, but I'd be happy with the Castrol in a standard car.
r2ck_p
Hi Alex, the car is stock, its a daily driver and does a lot of short journeys as my drive to work is only 1.2miles. What oil would you suggest that will protect the engine for this type of use? beside walking.

Hi I've replied to Rick's pm, but you might benefit from a bit of information about the wrong choice of oil (particularly 10w-60). http://www.opieoils.co.uk/pdfs/tech-articles/10w-60-oil.pdf Yes, you're right, the Edge 10w-60 is a good oil, but it is not right at all for a Supra. You could use the Edge 5w-40 and it would be fine, but not the 10w-60. Cheers Tim
zorglub
depend where you live, here in temperate wheather i would never put 5w40 in a old turbo car, really to fluid when engine getting hot. 10w60 is good here, but really useless if you don't track your car. 10w40 in good brand really enough and so much cheaper Edited July 20, 2012 by zorglub (see edit history)
