Flashing O/D and Slip Cont off lights

Right, I'm now a little stumped, so wondering if anyone can offer any advice on a problem I'm encountering please. I've used the search button, and tried a fair number of things, but I'm drawing a blank.

Car is a facelift, non-vvti auto tt. When I bought it, the O/D off and Slip cont off lights were flashing all the time. When I asked the guy about it, he said it had happened on a snowy day. At some point in it's life, the speedo has been changed (I've got the original). Note that the o/d is/was working perfectly (apart from the flashing light that is) but manu mode was not.

So, before Supra pod, I reset the ECU, planning to read fault codes this weekend. A fair number of miles later, I did a code read this morning, and it's reported no stored codes. I took the speedo cluster out, and was quite shocked at the state of the wiring for the convertor, so ended up taking this out of the circuit to see if it cured it. I've also changed the speedo over temporarily, and have basically only succeeded in making the problem go away for the first 30 seconds that the car is started. Essentially, until the problem manifests itself manu appears to work, as does snow mode. I don't believe it's ODO related (being facelift, it's got the odo in the speedo face) but happy to be corrected if I'm wrong.

so the first question is really... is this likely to be a sensor given that it starts when the car is completely stationary? Surely if it was a speed sensor, or abs sensor it would only happen once it started moving?

Any thoughts on the subject greatly appreciated :)

If you have cured the error lights, what actually is the problem?

I recently had both O/D off and Slip Cont lights flashing all the time, not straight away from start up, and it turned out to be a surface mount resistor on the odometer that had broken free.

Not saying it will be the same for you but thought I'd share

When I fixed the resistor on my odo, I knew I had sorted at least one of my problems because the power steering was light all the time, and soldering the resistor fixed that, but the O/D off and Slip Cont lights didn't go away untill I reset the ecu again....Just a thought.
