letmeshowyou
Right, I'm now a little stumped, so wondering if anyone can offer any advice on a problem I'm encountering please. I've used the search button, and tried a fair number of things, but I'm drawing a blank. Car is a facelift, non-vvti auto tt. When I bought it, the O/D off and Slip cont off lights were flashing all the time. When I asked the guy about it, he said it had happened on a snowy day. At some point in it's life, the speedo has been changed (I've got the original). Note that the o/d is/was working perfectly (apart from the flashing light that is) but manu mode was not. So, before Supra pod, I reset the ECU, planning to read fault codes this weekend. A fair number of miles later, I did a code read this morning, and it's reported no stored codes. I took the speedo cluster out, and was quite shocked at the state of the wiring for the convertor, so ended up taking this out of the circuit to see if it cured it. I've also changed the speedo over temporarily, and have basically only succeeded in making the problem go away for the first 30 seconds that the car is started. Essentially, until the problem manifests itself manu appears to work, as does snow mode. I don't believe it's ODO related (being facelift, it's got the odo in the speedo face) but happy to be corrected if I'm wrong. so the first question is really... is this likely to be a sensor given that it starts when the car is completely stationary? Surely if it was a speed sensor, or abs sensor it would only happen once it started moving? Any thoughts on the subject greatly appreciated
David P
If it's a sensor, then it should throw up a fault code. What was the fault code before you made it go away?
letmeshowyou
I didn't try reading it before the reset unfortunately. I figured with the journey to pod and back it would be more than enough to see if there were any, and start from fresh
David P
If you have cured the error lights, what actually is the problem?

letmeshowyou
I haven't cured them, they just take 30 seconds after first start up to appear, wheras before they were instant.
David P
I am assuming that 'them' is flashing lights, is that correct?
letmeshowyou
yes mate, same lights flashing as before
David P
In the diagnostic port, bridge E1 and TE1 then count the flashes, they will come along in groups, count until the same number comes around again then you will have them all. Then look here at the codes which will tell you what the problem is. http://www.mkivsupra.net/vbb/showthread.php?35920-How-To-Check-the-diagnostics-codes
snippyt
I recently had both O/D off and Slip Cont lights flashing all the time, not straight away from start up, and it turned out to be a surface mount resistor on the odometer that had broken free. http://www.mkivsupra.net/vbb/showthread.php?273028-Code-42-fixed-Now-slip-control-flashes-and-car-stalls Not saying it will be the same for you but thought I'd share
letmeshowyou
Did that David. No codes come up snippy, is yours facelift? The odo is in a different place (plus I've already tried changing the speedo/odo unit itself)
snippyt
No mine isn't a facelift....and yes you would of thought changing the speedo would of eliminated that
letmeshowyou
ok, thanks anyway mate. Anyone any other ideas?
David P
If the system thinks it is OK, with the E1 TE1 pinned, the OD light will give a steady constant flash. Do you have that?
letmeshowyou
yep Edited July 15, 2012 by letmeshowyou Hence my frustration :( (see edit history)
David P
Might be worth trying one at a time, another trac, trans and engine ECU to see if that cures it.
letmeshowyou
I was afraid of that advice! Are they the same on the facelifts do you know?
snippyt
When I fixed the resistor on my odo, I knew I had sorted at least one of my problems because the power steering was light all the time, and soldering the resistor fixed that, but the O/D off and Slip Cont lights didn't go away untill I reset the ecu again....Just a thought. David P
As far as I am aware, yes, there's what looks to be a set here. http://www.mkivsupra.net/vbb/showthread.php?272498-lots-of-cheap-parts

T14PPA
i had the same problem with my car. it ended up being the throttle position sensors on the throttle body. They had moved. look for markings and adjust them and im sure that will be your problem
