r2ck_p
Hi, I am sure something like this will have been asked before, however I would be interested to know what filters/induction kits TT owners are using and how they found them. Ideally looking for something with good filtration but also results in some good bhp gains. There are probabily two things to consider, the material (metal mesh, cotton, foam type) as well as the brand (Apexi, HKS, K&N, Blitz etc..) as most are slightly different in shape to allow air to channel in different ways. I have alway heard metal mesh give best bhp gains but are the poorest when it comes to filtration and should only be used for track days opposed to a daily driver. Not sure if anyone has tested different filters on a Supra TT and done before and after power gains and filtration tests. I remember reading this filtration test 7 years ago about Skylines - http://www.mkiv.com/techarticles/filters_test/2/ Cheers
welshbuddy
Thought the best flow for a twin Turbo is the stock airbox mate,

Nic
As said, stock airbox with paper element panel filter (stock, TRD, Blitz, K&N)

dan294
What's in it at the minute Rick? I presume it's still on a stock airbox? If it is, stick with the stock box and go for something like a K&N panel filter.
r2ck_p
Does everyone recommend the stock because the induction kits take in to much warm air, if so do they not produce CAI (cold air induction kits) for the Supra. Which sit down in the front bumper, opposed to the engine bay? - - - Updated - - - What's in it at the minute Rick? I presume it's still on a stock airbox? Cheers Don't think they do mate, I've got a cone filter on mine with a shield at the side of it. If you're on the stock airbox, stick a K&N panel in it. I know when we've dyno tested cars at work with standard induction kits, they tend to lose a bit of power when the engine warms up. That said, on a supra though, the warmer air still has to pass through your intercooler before it goes into the intake side....
r2ck_p
Cool, will check once I pick her up tomorrow which filter panel she has in.
Nic
The stock airbox is not restrictive, is sealed from the engine bay, has 2 cold air feeds (one through the centre bumper opening the other under the headlight) and has a bigger filtration area than a normal cone filter. You *may* get a couple of extra hp with an aftermarket panel filter but you won't notice any difference.

There you go Rick, I'd go with what Nic says. Plus, a K&N panel for example is a lot cheaper than an induction kit.
Kirk
The only foreseeable reason anyone would swap out the stock air box and filter is if they have fit an IC hard pipe kit where you pretty much have no choice. Stick with stock and a decent filter.
R Black
The main thing it appears you will gain by going conical, I.e. K&N is induction roar, which I kinda like
r2ck_p
Nic / Dan - cheers for the info. R Black - yeah the induction kit roar is great, maybe that’s why I was hoping there would be some gains with it over stock. Kirk - I will just stick with stock then until the day when I physically can't, due to IC hard pipes or larger rad etc...
Swampy442
That's it ^^ People don't really care what the best filter is, it's what makes the most noise. Guys in Australia did many hours of dyno testing on filter vs airbox testing on a Soarer, found a stock filter to provide the best cleaning vs performance, which after all is an air filter's only job.
