I have done what you are suggesting several times and with hindsight I would have done it differently, I would never take a loan to pay for upgrades, save up and buy outright, it's interesting when you actually have a few quid in the bank how this changes your perspective on things as well, make you really question the modification

great point.

 

if you take a £15,000 loan out for example, thats just a number on a form.

 

if you save for a year and have £15,000 in cash in your hand, then coming to the same decision may be very hard!!
