MOT fail

Recommended Posts

My supe has been laid up since the monsoon season started, anyway, I got bored of driving the family deutschewagon around, so I arranged an MOT date, She failed on supposedly blue side lights, actually white with a blue tint, so I put the old orange looking ones back, also headlight adjustment, and non working rear fogs, :(

Oh I got an advisory on my Super Drager for noise???

I have a silly red rocker on the dash to switch on the rear fogs.

Do most importers rewire two of the rear brake lights, using relays? And are they usually fitted behind the dash, I have only had time to trace what seems to be non factory spliced wires to the pedals.

Also is there a standard fog switch on a UK spec , I can replace the daft looking red light rocker(which does light) I have at the mo.

No idea how the importers usually wire rear fogs. Mine had one of the looms cut in the rear light cluster and a fresh cable run from a switch in the dash to one of the reversing lights, which had been fitted with a red bulb (technically still an MOT failure). The power source for the lights was taken from the dash illumination which IMHO isn't up to the job. There was no relay.

I re-wired mine by emulating the stock wiring, taking a live feed from the main power distribution and running it through a relay behind the drivers side kick panel. You can use a stock switch although you will have to cut out a very neat hole in the dash to fit it, as it fits from behind. You will need the part number for the older style switch, which is a simple push on / push off type. Later switches are more clever and self-cancel but I don't think you can wire them straight in (unless someone on here knows different). The old style switch has four terminals. Two for dashboard illumination and two for the actual switch.

You will also need to rig up a telltale warming lamp on the dash. I hacked the instrument panel and put it inside the fuel / temp gauge where the stock one is, but that was just me being mega-anal :) Any light (preferably orange) will do. I think you can even buy them with the rear fog logo on it.

This is the part number for the UK fog light switch, I think from memory it fits in the ignition panel - can someone confirm or post a pic? - you'd need to cut a hole in the panel to fit it, if you look on the back of the panel you can see the rectangle where the hole should go.

Thanks for the help guys, both my inner brake lights appear to be wired as fogs, if only one it has to be on the drivers side no? Thanks for the part number Nos

DNK Im missing a few things out of that picture, I have a pre facelift like in the pic, but I only recognise the mirror control, I have a button to fold the mirrors in too, but is that a headlight adjuster I spy there? Did Supes have these? iirc the last time I took the dash out, on the rear there was a raised plastic indication of where this button should go.

That steering wheel is also hideous, I would swap with mine to save your eyes.

On the Subject of FOG lights. Where does the UK car have it's fog tell tale light on the dash. I can only assume it's next to the ABS warning.

I'm currently wiring my rear fog up to the front fog light switch (via a relay) but by law they also need a tell tale light to pass an MOT and it would be nice to have it in the original UK position for neatness.

The tell tale light is the switch and that is all that is required mate

Yeah that's right but Nod wanted to know where it was in the UK car. Plus if you do use the stock switch then you will have to provide a seperate tell tale light somwhere on the dash.

Its in the fuel / temp gauge. See attached.
