Guest adamoakley
if I was to get someone to do the conversion for me (definitely don't have the skill to do it myself) how much would it set me back? I'm just waiting for a good buy on a supra and there seems to be a lot more choice of autos and just wondered which would be better financially?? Guest adamoakley
I got told 4-5k. So im staying auto! Jeez that's insane haha - - - Updated - - - What manual box you looking at w58 or v160 or R154? huge price difference and huge strength difference too. Probably the W58 (seems to be the cheapest, but not sure about strength?)
Josh42
4-5k would of been 6 speed, if your car is NA\stock TT, a w58 is more than capable. W58 conversions go for £650-£750 add on to that your labour costs
ripped_fear
Probably the W58 (seems to be the cheapest, but not sure about strength?) It is the cheapest but its not strong, some hold BPU TT power but not all and its a ticking time bomb.
ashbuster
r154 if you dont want 6 speed, i wouldnt bother with the w58
Kaan W
r154 if you dont want 6 speed, i wouldnt bother with the w58 Evening chap! What can the r154 handle?
listy
It's a much stronger box than a w58. I know Craig (Dr jeckyll) uses one in his track car. End of the day, a v160 is best, but r154 is second choice. Personally I'd save for a 6 speed.
Tyson
Depends on power level as a BPU r154 makes a savage street car.
Kaan W
Depends on power level as a BPU r154 makes a savage street car. Would it handle 700bhp well?
Tyson
Would it handle 700bhp well? If it could would people be spending 4k+ on a 6 speed
abtin90
Would it handle 700bhp well? Its torque levels that kill gearbox's. A lot of people in the US run the r154 may be worth doing some research on the US forum too.

David P
I have seen posted the R154 is 'rated' @ 600ftlb.
Supra Gaz
Talk to Austec, John did my conversion and you would never have known it was auto down to the quality of the work. It set me back about 2k all in for w58.
