Speedo correction/calabration and delimit

I was just wondering if it is a common problem with the supra or if someone has done a rubbish speedo conversion.

 

When travelling at around 70mph (from sat nav) my speedo actually reads just over 80mph. Now this is a good thing because if i stick to my speedo then i will never get a speeding ticket! (if i follow the limit that is).:blink:

My supra is an SZ-R and was imported. The speedo has been converted and but the limiter has been left on.

(don't know if its relevant but the clock still reads and counts in Km; i have checked this and it is pretty accurate)

 

What i want to know is can get a unit that will do a better job of speed conversion and delimit it at the same time?

Or does anyone know of a good garage in the east midlands that will do this for me?

Thanks for the help guys, BUT ...

electronics are not my strong point (by any stretch of the imagination)

 

So i have the actual speedo clock that reads in MPH (only up to ~110mph tho). Now i need to change the speedo to one that goes above ~110mph so i know how fast i am going when delimited.

Therefore does this mean that i can still use one of these converters?

 

Plus, if i use one of these units does it then alter the odo and trip to be in miles? I do not want it to do this as i would much rather keep all distances in KM (rather than remembering @ what KM it was converted to miles etc. PITA IMO):rolleyes:

Okay dokey. Your car has been converted to show mph simply by someone replacing a speedo fascia with another one. For example, the stock untouched JSpec speedo reads something like 180kph when the needle is roughly at the 6 O'Clock position (i.e. maximum speed that can be shown). 180kph is equivalent to 112mph so someone's just stuck a different set of numbers on the speedo that reads 120mph at the maximum, and of course all the usual numbers in between.

 

To show speeds greater than 120mph you'll need the speed signal to be electronically converted, and you do this by fitting a speed converter like the Thor one. You can wire them up either to just convert the speedo, or to convert the speedo and odo. I would recommend just converting the speedo: converting the odo won't reset the numbers, it'll just mean that subsequent distance is counted in miles instead of kms. Unless you do some further fiddling (which is uncomfortably close to clocking the car), then your odo will actually read a mixture of kms and miles, and that just feels shabby to me.

 

It's actually easier to wire up the units (certainly the Thor one) to only convert the speedo. Converting the odo as well requires one or two more breaks in the wire, and a bit more soldering.

 

PS once the converter is fitted you'll want to remove the aftermarket speedo fascia, which should reveal the dial that tops out at 180 (note I haven't specified the units: the converter will change the units from kph to mph).

I do not want to change the odo specifically because, like you say, it feels shabby. :rolleyes:

I do not think that the original speedo face is below but i need to check.
