neil
Hi people I need help I have a xs power wastgate wich doesn't have a strong enough spring in it the turbo is only producing 12 psi wich is making the same bhp as my twins Can any body suggest any ways to make the spring stronger or do I need a new spring ?? Thanks Luke and Neil
Wez
Decent gates normally have an adjustment screw on them to adjust the tension on the spring, if yours doesn't then a stronger spring is needed

mestew87
What sort of boost controller are you using or are you solely relying ont he wastegate ?
neil
No boost controller just relying on the wastegate. Would you recommend putting air in the wastegate would that work ??
mestew87
Your only way will be to fit a harder spring
neil
Will the one above fit in or not need some one to tell me And ok guys the hunt is on
Noz
No boost controller just relying on the wastegate. Would you recommend putting air in the wastegate would that work ?? Wastegates operate with a vacuum. Shoot air into it and nothing will happen. I tried it for fun once Contact XS. They usually reply fairly quickly. What does your boost gauge say. If the spring is a 12 psi spring the wastegate is working fine. There could be another issue somewhere else.
neil
Mine carnt be on a vacuum noz as I put air into it to make it open so would using air work ??
Noz
Hmm, maybe I was wrong. You don't explain what you want air to actually do mate. Using air to work... what?
neil
I put air in to it to make it open .. So would putting air in the bit where the spring is would it make it harder to open or not Bit hard to explan noz
black_widow87
If you want to run more boost than 12psi just install a boost controller.
neil
Just found these http://www.ashfield-springs.com/compression-springs.html gona give them a try tmoz Should have what I want
Nic
I'd just fit a manual boost controller, cheap, easy to install and will allow you to up the boost pressure to what you want. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Manual-Boost-Controller-NOT-A-BLEED-VALVE-LOOK-MBC-/140772862730?pt=UK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&hash=item20c6b76b0a#ht_3486wt_944
mellonman
exactly fit a boost controler i have the same wastegate and spring and just turn the boost up it just means you have more control over your boost, i run 1.1 and 1.3 with a 0.8 spring, if all fails at least i will be in safe boost
neil
Would this work ?? http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/NNC-Bleed-valve-Boost-Controller-IN-CAR-BLUE-Turbo-Petrol-Diesel-/150800764629?pt=UK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&hash=item231c6d0ed5#ht_710wt_689
mellonman
yes but they are hard to get boost even across the range! gear, intake temp ect, you should invest in a decent boost controler job done or even a ecu that controls boost would be best
neil
I have a ecu that can have one fitted and I think it dose controle the boost not sure but I have to order it and not got te cash is any body selling one on hear for not much Bitt anoyed but it all ways happen Luke Neil's son
Nic
Would this work ?? http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/NNC-Bleed-valve-Boost-Controller-IN-CAR-BLUE-Turbo-Petrol-Diesel-/150800764629?pt=UK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&hash=item231c6d0ed5#ht_710wt_689 That is a 'bleed valve' type manual boost controller, it would work but it wouldn't control the boost pressure as well as a 'ball and spring' type manual boost controller (like I posted the link to). A bleed valve simply bleeds away some of the air to the wastegate, a ball and spring manual boost controller opens the valve once the desired boost is reached, there's a more detailed explanation of the 2 types here: http://www.boostcontroller.com/display_page.php?i=22 Do a Google search for 'ball and spring manual boost controller' there are loads of different ones available.
