skyline1
My rear tyres are about dead so will be wanting some new rubber pretty soon but want loads of grip too:d so thought about going for the toyo 888'S or something along the lines of them. i know most track tyres come in different compounds like soft or meduim. what will be best for road and track? ideally i want to get the car down santa pod this year too and try my luck on the strip, my car comes off the road in the winter too so bad weather wont be seen ...well hopefully not. know there are alot of tyre brands out there now that make there own version but im a newbie to track tryes so need the info. Chris Wilson
Circuit use, hard as they make. Drag race? Probably as soft as they make, but drag tyres are really very different to road or track tyres, they don't need to go around corners, or brake very well, and they don't need to work in the wet. 888's are as bad as they come as road legal circuit tyres, you need to be looking at Michelin pilot Sport Cups, Pirelli Trofeos, or some of the specialised Dunlops. The car needs setting up to make any of these work properly, too. Mixing road legal track tyres on the rear and "normal" tyres on the front is a bad, bad BAD idea. skyline1
Cheers for that Chris , i didnt really think about the facts in that way so what does everyone use for the track then to help with there awesome times?
AJI
Like Chris said unless you are doing suspension changes to make use of the 'track' tyres then you're not going to get best use out of them. As an alterative idea if you want a road tyre that works very well on track (without having to set up your geo or alter roll bars etc. etc) then the new "Goodyear Eagle F1 Aysmetric 2" is a fantastic tyre. These new versions are a harder wearing compound but through some fancy tech they provide better allround grip performance over the previous versions. Bonus is that they'll no doubt last longer than a 'track' tyre and they'll cope with all conditions. My Supra currently has these new goodyears on it and can't fault them.
