pbryant_knight
Hi All, I went to the garage today to get my new steering wheel fitted and after taking the original wheel off, it would appear that the boss shroud is the wrong diameter. The horn is worked off a contact ring and the original wheel slides over the connector but the new boss is too small. apparently the Boss shroud should be around 4.5 - 5" and the one i have is about 3.6". The steering wheel is the 1993 non airbag version. Here's a pic to show you what i mean. (these are not my dirty fingernails by the way, they belong to the mechanic who has been working all day) Can anyone recommend a cheap boss that would fit my car? Possibley an ebay link (to a different one than this) Cheers Peter
thomo8568
This is the one I used. The rubber is still not a perfect fit as you have to stretch it over horn plug iPhone URL: Steering wheel boss kit Toyota Supra mk4 93-02 Soarer Browser URL: Steering wheel boss kit Toyota Supra mk4 93-02 Soarer I can post a photo if needed to show how mine looks Edited June 16, 2012 by thomo8568 (see edit history)

pbryant_knight
Just checked the link for that Boss now i'm on my computer and not my phone and that's the one that i got? You sure it was that one you bought from tarmaceater?
thomo8568
Yes that's the link for the same as what I have. I didn't think the photos looked right on the eBay add when I got it, but it was the right one when it arrived. May still have the box, will look for it and see if it's got a part number on it. Have you got a photo of the one you have from the back, just to see if it's the same as the one I used? pbryant_knight
I'll take one when I get a chance mate. He says he just does the one for the supra but your diameter looks wider than mine. You also say your shroud is rubber and you stretched it over the horn contact but mine is a more rigid plastic.
thomo8568
Just had another look at your first post, the boss you have does look just like the one I used, but my horn didn't work of a contact ring it pluged in on the connector that you have to stretch the shroud over. thomo8568
Mine was hardish ruber/plastic, i fitted the metal part first then slid the shroud over. Also had to remove 2 or 3 rings from bottom to get it to sit flush. But it does lose its shape abit(nolonger round) Edited June 18, 2012 by thomo8568 (see edit history)
pbryant_knight
Well, Got this sorted. The boss shroud did fit after all. When the mechanic offered it up and said it didn't fit it must have been warped towards the bottom giving the illusion that it was too small. If i hadn't been there and seen it with my own eyes i would have said he was nuts after i got it to slip straight on. very weird. Just ordered a spacer though as my fingers keep clipping the stalks.
