Garrett GTX Series or precision Turbo

I want a fast road , drivable setup; I dont care about quoting horsepower just want a quick setup but drivable and instant responce

 

Has anybody had any experience with the GTX series yet (35 or 42R) or how would they compare to the precision Turbo T67 (just curious as I was advised to get the T67)

 

I would also like the car to spool quicker than BPU if possible, pin you to the back window, not looking for top speed just instant power

 

My friend had the HKS 2835 kit on his Chaser and said it was superior on the road compared to the T78 on his Rx7; it was actually a practical road setup

 

Is it possible to put on a larger turbo later, without the need to change the Manifold, not too sure about T4 divied, V band T3 etc fitments

I cant fault the Borg Warner bullseye power turbo i have, it spools super fast.

 

I would go batmowheel range now though.

 

I want to stick with Garrett or precision Turbo; they are around years but definetly will go with the Full race manifold unless somebody has a good reason to go Cast

If you're looking for a decent turbo manufacturer, Borg Warner is one of the best firms out there. They make all kinds of OEM turbos, including the clever variable ones for the 911 Turbos. Been around rather a long time ;)

Don’t forget to look at a descent exhaust manifold as the design assists with spooling too.

No point getting an expensive turbo with a crap turbulent manifold.

 

May be worth looking at getting the manifold and the exhaust side of the turbo ceramic coated (Zircotec coating) as well.

Agree'd. Id also be looking at a twin scroll manifold as well.

 

I'm watching with interest the Sound Performance manifold testing - to see if twin scroll really *does* make that much difference. Twin wastegate I can understand, but the whole twin scroll manifold / divided / undivided turbo scenario seems quite a murky topic.

 

On topic, there is only a little bit of testing data available for the GTX series, and it suggests mostly that the gains are made at higher boost pressures. I run a Garrett 4294R which does pretty well, but not the fastest spooling turbo out there. Of course, any turbo over 65 mm will probably not spool or respond instantly, so I'm not sure if the 42 series is the size you are looking for.

Anything around 61mm (+/- 2mm) is really responsive on the road, if you want the punch to the red line I'd suggest trying a .8x A/R on the exhaust with a T61. Full boost by 3400rpm on a stock block is achievable, which means even with a slightly short shift you'll drop into the power band.

The BW are disappointing for all the hype that was talked about them.

 

Id go with PT 67 CEA.

 

Agreed, CEA billet Precision ftw, fastest street car in the world runs Precision turbos.

Have a read of this thread, HKS single gate manifold kicks the crap out of a full race twin wastegate setup.

hey mate you going single soon i am another yr away but really like the gtx35r turbo not sure will it be enough to put us in the 200mph club lol

Cant beat the HKS manifold IMO

 

HKS manifolds are nice but my manifold out performed the HKS in back to back testing. 800 rpm earlier spool up and nothing else was changed.

And my HKS manifold along with other HKS manifolds we've used on track cars crack. Never had one of mine crack as yet.

Assuming you are looking for 650hp+ I wouldn't (and didn't) consider anything other than a cast manifold. The downside is the "kit" side of things is just not common so you're into fabrication and that needs to be top notch to get max performcae from a cast manifold setup.

 

The gains you make in spool and response are not to be sniffed at for a road car.

 

If you want more than 650hp and/or can't get the fabrication work done then look for the best tubular around IMHO.

I was advised to get the PT 67 CEA. by the Supra Specialist over here ; I think It is best they spec the rest. Only stipulation is, I would like RyanG to map her
