barneybrendan
car descided to dump it power steering fluid yesterday. The culprit was the feed pipe into the rack. After removing the steel pipe i could see it looed rather rusted. These have a plastic sheath which seems to of acted lie some sort of water trap.Worst thing is i have given a rack and pipes away not so long ago.Only option was to get the welder out and see if i could repair it.Well i have to say the metal is damn thin.In the end i welded the pipe up and down the length to give it some extra stregth ,and hopefully stop it rottting again. Now my pump is a bit niosey.I suspect thats just air in the system now and it will settle itself. Just a heads up to chec the power steering pipe,as this happening on along trip would be a bit of a downer.
pedrosixfour
My car seems to have dumped all it's PS fluid about 5 minutes before the end of the track day yesterday, haven't had a chance to determine the cause yet. The fuel pump stopped working at the same time too, car just ground to a halt! Thats when I spotted the oil leak, wonder if they're related. Still, better it happened 5 minutes from the end of this track day than 5 minutes into the start of the next one on the 29th.
Havard
When I popped a power steering hose on my NA the pump sounded awful. Once topped up again it was fine. Picked up a high pressure hose for £6 from a local supplier. Toyota wanted "one million dollars" H.
