Havard
Can some kind person point me in the direction of the size and power of stock fog light bulbs? I think I have finally got to the bottom of the headlight issue. The caps that go on the back of the fog light section of the light have not been fitted as I have HID fog lights. I can put the caps back on if I get stock bulbs. I think they are H3's but I don't know the wattage. I can't believe I have not noticed the caps were missing. It's only when I looked at another facelift car I spotted the difference to mine. Thanks H.
David P
H3 55w. Or pass the wires through centre of OE cap and seal with silicone. Edited June 2, 2012 by David P (see edit history)
Havard
H3 55w. Or pass the wires through centre of OE cap and seal with silicone. I thought about that but didn't want to mess with it too much. I have never used the front fog lights in all the time I have used the car. With the caps off it's amazing to see how much water goes into the back of the headlight. Cheers David H. David P
All of the water that runs down the gap between wing and bonnet pours straight onto the back of the fog-light bulb fitting. Poor effort by Mr T.
Havard
All of the water that runs down the gap between wing and bonnet pours straight onto the back of the fog-light bulb fitting. Poor effort by Mr T. When the car has come from Japan it already had the HID conversion on both the headlight and foglight. As the car has been undercover most of the time it has masked the issue with the water running down the wings. It's only when I left it out for a month that the weather showed the problem with the light. When I have washed it the lights have fogged up but I have always tired to keep the water away from the gaps at the side of the bonnet. I will be a happy just to get the headlights working properly without the fogging. My car always looks like it has Conjunctivitis..!! H. David P
As post 2, with a generous finger-full or two of black silicone and it will be mendified.
Kirk
Here's an idea, just get some Osram h3 night breakers which actually fit and have done with the issue! I never once felt the need for HID fogs as the dip beam produced more than enough light.

Kirk
Super bright white fog light bulbs that fit and seal correctly.
dan294
I had the same issue when I swapped my headlights Paul, the new ones don't come with the OE Foglight bulb holders do they? Mine used to mist up all the time. With the fog light bulb holder fitted, touch wood, they're fine. They weren't fortunes either from Toyota. David P
The fog-lights rear bayonet with O-ring seal are part of the OE loom, except when bright-sparks leave them off whilst fitting HID's. Havard
Super bright white fog light bulbs that fit and seal correctly. It's not the bulbs that are the problem. There is a cap with a seal on it that the bulb connection and earth wire runs through. The orignal caps are wrapped up in a load of insulation tape that was stuffed down the inside of the wings. All I need to do is pull the connectors out of the original loom/cap and put the correct bulbs in and it should be sorted. The caps new from Toyota were about £13 each. H. Havard
Without being thick. H3 bulbs have an additional wired attached to them. But the cap also has a wire that connects inside the headlight. I am assuming that this earths inside the headlight casing. what do you do with the extra wire?
David P
Yes.
Havard
Yes. Yes? I have just looked at the fitting cap and the the wire from the bulb is the power wire. The extra wire is the earth to the casing. I am sorted and should order some of t'internets. Totyota wanted £15.00 each for the standard bulbs. H. Havard
The last question was "what do I do with the extra wire?". I didn't realise it was a power wire, I thought that the bulb actually connected directly into the cap like the rear ones do. (If you are with me?). H. David P
As long as you've got it sorted then all is well and if a smile happened along the way then even better.
Havard
Ok then. I have ripped out the HID wiring and ballasts. I am now left with the stock fog light cap but I don't have any H3 bulbs this bank holiday. The warning triangle is on as there isn't a bult in the holder. Can I just put a wire in with two spade connectors to bridge the connection or will I do some damage? I wanted to take the car for a spin without the warning triangle being on. I was then going to order some bulbs off the internet. H.
