listy
Did it empty your oil out? Mine is more or less dry now. Did you have the same symptoms as me? And could this explain why my first turbo sometimes had "super lag"?
Tricky-Ricky
A leak from the turbo feed/drain will not normally result in oil all over the cam pulleys and belt.
listy
Didnt think it would have done. Would have thought any leakage would be down the turbo side of the block.
d_d
A leak from the turbo feed/drain will not normally result in oil all over the cam pulleys and belt. He has not mentioned any oil on the cam pulleys yet not even taken the cover off by the sounds of it.
keron
I've had it on stands mate, all the oil is all over the cam pulley etc and all along the underside of the car. Apparently "classic front seal failure". Got a mechanic coming tomorrow to have a look. He has not mentioned any oil on the cam pulleys yet not even taken the cover off by the sounds of it. He has mate
listy
Had a mechanic come round yesterday. Not a garage I have used before, but comes recommended by a friend. Has to be said, any worries were gone when he pulled up in a 450bhp taxi (r33) and I discovered he was the owner of said garage and has worked on supras before and specialises in jap performance cars. He had a look in the bay, and I described the underside of the car being covered in oil front to back, and he agrees it looks like front crank seal failure. He is just finding out how much the parts will cost before giving me a quote later in the week. What else will I need parts wise for this other than the following : - Front crank seal - £20.20 from Whifbitz Factory Oil Pump - £125 from Future Motorsport I'm replacing the oil filter at the same time too as its getting new oil. Which is better? K&N (about £12) or TRD (about £24)? Both available from whifbitz.
straightsix
TBH I'd just go with a genuine Toyota one.
Dnk
I'd be popping a new cambelt on it and maybe even a crank pulley

listy
Found Japspeed Lightweight Crank Pulley for £60. Any good? And a Blueprint timing belt/cam belt for £54. Obviously, I'd love to just go for the HKS pulley set and timing belt, but the money just isnt there right now
TheTurtleshead
Found Japspeed Lightweight Crank Pulley for £60. NO!!!!! Just No.It has been covered loads of times, stick with a stock crank dampener.
listy
Roger that. Cheers mate Thought it might not be any good, looking at the price of it, seems a bit TOO cheap.

Obviously, I'd love to just go for the HKS pulley set and timing belt, but the money just isnt there right now Do not fit a lightweight un damped crank pulley, stick with the std or a decent aftermarket (properly damped) unit, surprised that blue print belts have gone up that much used to pay £20 for mine, also pointles running fancy adjustable cam pulleys if you don't have uprated aftermarket cams. listy
Right, had a mechanic from work pop in to have a look and discuss what needs doing. He's happy to do it (with me helping) for a wonderful £250!!! So, next weekend, we'll be replacing the crank seal, cambelt, oil pump, oil filter and ofcourse, replacing all the lost oil! So hopefully, all going well, she will be up and running again a week on Sunday!

listy
Right. Ordered everything I need from Keron yesterday at a very good price compared with anywhere else I looked. Has to be said (as it has been many times before) Keron is a top bloke and I have been searching for the parts all week and nowhere else came close in price. Parts should turn up tuesday or wednesday, ready for when I get home on friday. Then it will be bumper off, tow it into camp to the workshop, and get cracking. Hopefully be all done by late saturday, or early sunday. Cant wait to drive her again. 2 weeks with no Supe just seems wrong!
listy
Been on the car since about 10 ish. Just about to drop the subframe but have stopped for lunch its all unbolted, just being held up by jacks at the moment. The rate we are going, may be able to get it all done in one day
listy
Update: Got the oil pump and crank seal changed and the first part of the sump is back on. Had a mare with the ac pump? i think, as it was blocking the oil pump from coming out, but got to the horrendously positioned bolt in the end. Also, when putting the sump on, caught the oil level float, which promptly broke but have managed to make a new one from a landrover one just had to cut it down a bit So come tomorrow, the second part of the sump is going back on first thing, then on with the crank pully, radiator etc, and we will be done The GOOD news: Turns out, it WAS the crank seal. The thin silver ring that sits in the crank seal just fell out when we took the oil pump off, so it had obviously somehow decided to go for a small walk. So at least we now know for sure that that was the problem. Also, when we took the sump plug out, around 750ml to a litre of oil drained out, and there was still around half an inch left in the sump when we took it off. Also, the crank and internals had a nice healthy coating of oil on them, so fears of damaging the insides of the engine are gone Was my biggest worry, that when the sump came off everything was going to be bone dry, but thankfully that was not the case As soon as i get the photos off my phone and onto the laptop, I'll post up pics of the days progress. straightsix
Really pleased you're getting this sorted and it wasn't really bad news. I know how disheartening it can be when you get unexpected problems....
listy
Cheers mate All done now, started again at half 10 and was finished at half 3 Subframe went on nice and easy which was a joy, the only problem was we lost a bolt for one of the wishbones, and spent almost an hour looking for it! But found it in the end She drives nice and solid now, so I'm a happy boy again Only annoying thing now is that when I put the bumper back on, a gap has appeared by the drivers side light, which wasnt there before. Completely baffles me but I cant seem to sit the bumper to get rid of it. So I'll just have deal with it until I figure it out. Cheers to those who helped out with the diagnosis, and to Keron for supplying the parts at lightning speed
