Error 34 turbo pressure malfunction over 2bar?!?!

Hi

I've just checked my error codes and have a code 34 stored. this appears to be a turbo pressure malfunction.

ALL conditions detected continuously for 2 secs or more

a: manifold absolute pressure over 29psi 2kgf/cm2

b: throttle valve opening angle 20deg or more

c: engine speed 2400rpm or more

I thought boost cut was around 1bar? This could be just the code that is stored for a normal fuel/boost cut when bpu with no RR but 2 bar seems a lot higher than I thought if it is. I am jspec bpu with no RR but I do have a race cat which does seem to restrict the boost to 1.1bar(ish) I don't have the bcc fitted at the moment and have hit fuel cut on the way back from japfest.

I've never seen this code mentioned before.

If I have hit over 2bar how are the jspec turbos still in one piece? Is it possible to get more than 29psi(2bar) from the jspecs without a boost controller fitted unless there was another issue. The manual says that the trouble area is either the actuator (for wastegate valve) , a short in vsv for wastegate circuit or the ecu.

I'm definitely no expert in the turbo system as it has always worked fine. Are the trouble areas listed in the manual just a red herring as I'm now bpu? or should I be very worried. I know that my first point of call is to reset the ecu and see if it happens again, but at over 2bar I don't really want to risk it.

Any advice appreciated

Rob

If you hit 2 bar i think you would know about it, the j-specs would self destruct way before that i imagine! Its probably the fuel cut that has logged the error code with a generic warning message, with the fuel cut still active it shouldn't let you past 1.1bar anyway.

Thanks for the help mate, much appreciated. I think I'll get a RR fitted and then the BCC, reset the codes and go from there. I didn't realise that the stock sensor couldn't read that high so you have been of use :)

cheers

Thanks for both of those replies, put my mind completely at rest. As I said I'm no expert on the turbo system, it just works. should have said compressor fins meet the intercooler. :)

Thanks again. I'll get the bcc fitted and source a RR to make it a little safer.
