sideshowbob
As above guys, been challenged to a race, quarter mile to be exact. As you can tell from my sig, i have a manual n/a. Only mod so far is a jasma pipe, had a razo induction kit, but seems better with a standard airbox, so thats whats fitted. The usual pub banter has led me to this......one of my mates is a yanky car freak, keeps spouting about 10sec cars in 1964 etc... Chevy this & Hemi that! He really seems convinced that he'll whup me in a drag race, maybe he will, maybe he won't He has a......Plymouth Barracuda 5.9ltr, pushing out 300bhp (in his own words), to me, this seems a good race. Obviously he has more power than me, but he is also driving a 3bed semi detached house! The Barracuda is off the road at present (obviously, aren't they all), seems that it will be ready next spring, whether i still have the n/a then remains to be seen, hopefully have a tt by then But in all reality, will the n/a stand any chance against a Barracuda? Or do i just.....
Bob
I'd say he may well beat you (though don't know how heavy those things are). Quarter mile isn't a proper race anyway - introduce a bend and he'll never catch you!
D3xt3r
Depending on what Cuda he as exactly the ran 14.0-15.0 stock in 1968 when they came out. So you wont stand a chance with the NA. Standard TT will be close if not better if he is stock.
Pete
BTW - Jasma isn't an exhaust manufacturer - something to do with a standard in Japan I think.
raymanuk
Dude stick a 100bhp shot of nos and hand it to him on a plate...... Or is part of the conditions stock setup..... If so then I think you will have a hard time.
Homer
I would think he would beat you, probably would give a TT a run for its money especially if he's doing any modifications. You mentioned Hemi, it its a Hemi engined it will be closer to 450bhp. The Cuda is one of my favourite cars, one day I will own one.... If its actually a 5.9 litre, that makes it a 426 Hemi He'll slaughter you TBH, in an N/A you don't stand much of a chance with any 'Cuda that's got a 383 or bigger. I'd be careful of some of the 340s as well Hemi 'Cudas were conservatively rated at 425 bhp, and ran 13-13.5 out of the box, 440s weren't far behind them. In stock form, they'd give a stock TT a good run for their money, in fact they'd probably beat it. Tuning can realise awesome performance with both marques Getting it to go round a corner, or even stop in a sensible distance, is quite another thing
geoffvalenti
The Cuda is one of my favourite cars, one day I will own one.... The Hemi 'Cuda is one of my all time favourite cars, with the prices as they are these days, I've resigned myself to the fact that one day I probably won't
GeordieSteve
Sorry mate.. I love Supras but by the sounds of it... he'll eat you up. Borrow a TT and change the plates
Whitelightning
Doesn't look good. But what hes says doesnt add up. 300bhp or the 426 Hemi ? Its an old car so you might keep up.
D3xt3r
Those things were build for straight line speed so even with a TT it will be hard for 1/4mile. If he had anything done to it he could even outdo a BPU or single car.
Guest Terry S
Or use my Black single car Bob
geoffvalenti
Doesn't look good. But what hes says doesnt add up. 300bhp or the 426 Hemi ? No, sorry, my bad Too early in the morning for complicated calculations 5.9 litres is actually a 360ci, not a bad engine, but hasn't got the glamour of a 340, 440 or a Hemi. You probably still will struggle to beat him with an N/A, but a TT should do the job
Kopite
he'll open a can of whoop ass if it's the hemi one. borrow a BPU TT or take Terry up on his offer
Markie
Come on guys.. Its an american car that probably weighs a good few tons... I would actually put my money on you Bob... MAke sure your car is tip top though, nice new plugs, good petrol etc... Run with as little fuel in the tank as possible too.

tbourner
Yeah it's a heavy car, but how much torque do those yank engines bring home? Don't think I'd fancy racing him in a straight line let alone an NA!
