terribleturner
Well went out today to take some pictures of the car around Windsor and ended up parking in one of the gates (photo's to be shown later). A police car pulls up and tells me off for parking on castle property and then told me off for no front plate. I gave him the usual excuses and he told me to go away and get it sorted. So we drive off down the road looking for our next location when as we go through Datchet i see him again with all the lights flashing. So once again we pull over and get out and he tells me this time that my number plate is not a real number plate. First off im thinking it's the size or something, but he then adds that my new personnlised number plate doesn't exsist. So we had a chat, i gave him my license, vin number and old front plate which i had with me and he went through all the checks. They both loved the car and understood that there was something funny going on that i had no idea was happening. Sabrina in thee mean time ran off to thee local petrol station to grab a sandwich while i talked with Mr. Law. So i have the Tax for the plate from the DVLA, but can't put the old plate back on as i will get in more trouble for not displaying Tax. Really crazy. Not much i can do now till Monday when i have to phone the DVLA and see what's going on after the plate they sold me isn't a vaild plate
cornimac
That's a bit wierd... So they first off didn't give you much of a hard time about your modded plates but must have run a check on the number. Hmmm.. I just bought a number off DVLA too - can't believe they would mess up but anything's possible. So you in trouble or what?
Homer
I wouldn't worry mate, its probably just an admin error at the DVLA. Same thing happened to a mate of mine, it was something to do with the forgetting to entering the newly released plate into one of the databases. One phone call to the DVLA and it was sorted the same day.
terribleturner
It's really odd as i found it on several websites and then went with the DVLA site as they did the best deal. They didn't do anything, just said call Monday to see what they're playing at and if i get stopped again to say the officers name and where he was from. if it was wrong then why did they sell it in the first place and why did no one say anythin yesterday at the DVLA?? Matt T
At least the police put the lights on and pulled you over when the plate came up fishy, some proper police work there! Annoying it may be when everything is genuine but i would like to think my car would get pulled over if i reported it stolen.
imi
I was stopped within a week of getting new plates from the DVLA. Copper pulled up by my side on a set of lights and asks me why my plate number doesnt register, I explained that it was a personalised plate at which point he asked me for the old registration number. Once I handed that to him, he told me to move on. Good policing I must say...
TrickTT
Apparently it takes several weeks for new plates to get on the system. My brother-in-law got a tug after 3 weeks in his van and was told by the plod that until the new V5 is generated at swansea the plate wont be on the computer. terribleturner
Cheers guys. Was a little worried that i'd been done over by the likes of NVLA as Fifty put it From now on im carrying the old plates and the recipt etc... In a way im glad they checked up on me. Plus they liked the car so that means they were nice police men So does this mean if i go through a speed camera they can't trace me
ArghJae
If you've just bought the plate then it might still take a week or two to update the new driver details onto the database. If the plate is brand new then obviously it needs to have a record created which also takes a little time. As for speed cameras and that well just because it's delayed doesn't mean they won't know when you aquired the new plate, so you may get caught. terribleturner
May not test the speed camera theory then Bought the plate just over a week before JAE. Plus why would the DVLA give me the tax disc and go through all the stuff the other day if the plate wasn't valid?? DVLA are just a bunch of muppets. ArghJae
It'll just be admin delays, wouldn't worry about it too much. A phonecall to them should set your mind at ease, otherwise just shout at them down the line for stress relief.
how_supra
a phonecall assumes you can actually get through to someone at DVLA to speak to them about it...............you'l have more luck winning £77million pounds on the euro lottery me thinks.
