It's an epoxy resin Paul and yeah, they're then coated with a high UV and scratch resistant lacquer (my bro works in a body shop so he does this bit).

 

I've tried it with polyester resin but not epoxy. Could you pm the type of epoxy you use as I'd like to have another go sometime.
