Angry Acorn
Hi all, I think I have a slight problemo, when the car is parked or driven in and around town maybe getting up to 160kmh max for short distances I don't have a leak, nothing on garage floor or where ever it parks! However I took it for a road trip of about 500km averaging 180kmh and it had a bad leak as it was raining i could see it clearly 1min after it was parked, as we would say it was P*ssing out oil! so I stopped every few km checked and refilled if needed. Yet when I got to my destination and drove around nothing I know that there was a leak by the gear box which needed a seal replaced (apparently nothing serious) I did this but havnt checked it? it wasnt however leaking anywhere near as much oil as when I opened her up over a long period of time. any constructive help would be appreciated guys thanks
Swampy442
Not the best idea to put illegal speeds on a public forum Next, if you have a garage or under cover parking space stick shoe sheets of white paper under the car when you park up for the night. That will tel you where the leak is.
Angry Acorn
luckly these speeds arn't illegal where the car is haha and thanks ye didnt think of that
Angry Acorn
....but wait it doesnt leak when parked? it only leaked on the long run that i did. I know this becuase iv checked the garage floor multiple times, and its a light grey in colour so oil will easily be seen.
Scooter
where underneath did/does the oil leak............passenger or drivers........at the front or back...........do you have a stock engine undertray?
Angry Acorn
it seemed to be in and around the gear box area? was def engine oil that was leaking and yes I have a stock under tray! the leak was coming from the centre back of the engine if i remember correctly. Scooter
There are three main oil leak areas, but with an undertray it's not always easy to find the source...... Front crank seal, Camcovers (these you can see from the top but they don't tend to leak as much as you seem to suggest it was) and the Oil pressure sensor. (it's behind the aircon compressor) The oil pressure sensor can partially go which 'may' explain the leaking only under more stressful/revvy use but you'd see oil all down the lower passenger side of the engine by the oil filter housing and further back. You need to try and narrow down the source area for us to give more certain advice....
Josh
I have a tiny leak (I think) where the gearbox bolts to the engine. I've never seen a drip on the ground from it, but there's always wet oil in the bottom of the gearbox and almost always a drip hanging off there, but it never drips off. Angry Acorn
ye josh I have the same thing its some seal that needs to be replaced which I did but dont think it was done properly cause its still happening! and Scooter thank you very much for the help, ill be back home next week and have a good look then post my findings and see what you think? Im not very confident in these mechanics anymore rather go and tell them what to look for than them telling me what "it is".
