Golfpro
Five and a half hours of defending surely cant represet the way football should be played.
RobD
It done the job though didn't it? I don't support Chelsea but I'll back them to the hills when it comes to any German club!

Porky1978
Five and a half hours of defending surely cant represet the way football should be played. In the same breath you cant win it by attacking all the time. Bayern had over 30 shots at goal, surely they should have scored more than one?? I take my hat off to Chelsea, played/defended (whichever you prefer) as if their lives depended on it. Ashley Cole was magnificent. Deserved Champions in my opinion. With the amount of money spent on the Chelsea squad over lthe last 5 years you would have thought that they should have been able to hold their own with anyone. Instead they resorted to parking the bus. Even then, they needed the oposition to miss two penalties in nornal time!
edinlexusV8
Any away game is generally like this. Chelsea strategy paid off. There are times Chelsea played good attack and didnt win. This is one of the other times they mostly defended hard and did manage to win. Dont know how many champion league finals I have seen that ended in penalties. Nothing unusual here. I am happy chelsea finally joined he club of champion league winners!! Great day for chelsea, dont need to spoil their win.
sdistc
You can't have your cake and eat it too. Chelsea's squad is old, and they played to their strengths all Champions League - slow the pace, defend and defend, and counterattack. But this is almost identical to the Chelsea squad that won numerous FA cups and Premier League titles in the past 8 seasons (and lost in similar circumstances to which they won tonight in '08!), so it's not like they haven't ever shown their quality. Totally agree. They played good attacking game against ManU a couple of years ago in the final but still lost that final. This is chelsea's day ... the new Champions ;-)

Its just that it would put me off watching football if "win at all costs" is more important than playing the game.

Porky1978
I think what we have to remember is that Bayern were playing at HOME (surely a massive advantage in the Champions League final) so Bayern were always going to see a lot more of the ball. Chelsea had to adjust their strategy accordingly and it worked. Boring? possibly. Exciting? definately. Deserved winners? Abso-friggin'-lutely. With the UEFA ticketing strategy Bayern will have exactly the same number of tickets as Chelsea as at least half the tickets are kept for sponsors, corporate etc. Anyway, good teams play well home and away. Real champions play with style even under pressure. Just look at Leinster in the Heineken Cup Final today (and I am an Ulsterman!).
listy
I would like no better than for Chelski to have lost today, being an Arsenal man, but to have an English club bring home the UCL trophy is what matters at the end of the day on an occasion like this At the end of the day, Di Matteo has taken Chelsea from the brink in March, and has since led them to become UCL Champions, so big credit to him too. Is that not the whole point? You do what you need to do to win, especially in a competition like the Champions League. It doesn't matter what sport it is. Winning is winning, no matter how you do it. To me it doesn't matter how many shots you have on target. The only thing that matters is how many of those shots end up in the back of the net. Bayern had plenty of chances to put the game beyond Chelsea's reach and they failed to do it. Just to clarify I'm not a chelsea fan, but a team that can hold their own against Bayern and Barca deserve to win in my opinion
Porky1978
And to think they did it with quite a few first choice players missing through injury/suspension too. Makes it even more remarkable if you ask me.

tkddav3
i thought i was a good game! abit too much defending but it got the job done. drogba's header was a goft from god! and there was no doubt that he was gonna take the penultimate penalty (that was a serious brown pants moment) and cole was on it like a car bonnet. great defending
Fitz
I think we did rather well, we haven't had the best of seasons this year but to come up against some big teams in football and to come out on top deserves respect amd recognition from my point of view. As people have said sitting back and defending for the majority of games isn't the most amazing football, but we stopped goals from going in and managed to counter attack when needed. I really enjoyed watching the Final last night, and think it was a great game...(still dont know how we won on Penalties with our track record ) Championes, Championes...Ole Ole Ole
Golfpro
I'm obviously not going to get any reasonable replies as all any of you guys are interested in is that an english team won. Let me put it differently, if Bayern had defended for the entire game then won on penalties would you still have the same opinion?

When Bayerns goal went in on 82 minutes i actually said they deserved to score because of the way they played. Chelsea did well to score off their first corner and get themselves back into the game.
