Abz's white NA Supra at Invisible Touch Detailing

This time we have Abz's white NA in for a stage 1 paint enhancement, please no facebook jokes with me thinking it was a TT :D

I know Abz has wanted to come over for some time, so it was lovely to finally see his great condition, low mileage, 6 speed NA. The cars arrival was also nicely planned for it to be completed just in time for the Dragonball 2012 road trip to Rotterdam :)

However, the cars appearance was really being let down by an extremely flat finish caused from weathering being outside.

Here's a closer inspection after the cars arrival...

The instructions for the wheels was just a clean as they would shortly be coming off to be refurbed

As i prepared to bring the car out to start the wash process, our currently strange weather made another down poor, so on went the waterproofs!

image

Tyres cleaned with APC, wheels with Bilberry and a selection of brushes

image

All mirrors, lights, window trim, badges, door/boot and fuel shuts also cleaned with APC

The car was then jetwashed, snowfoamed, washed with Shampoo Plus, clayed to remove bonded contamination and washed again. Leaving this

Finally, back inside in the dry (only for the sun to come out!)

Now clean, the paintwork was more closely inspected

Paint thickness readings were taken and found to be of common levels expected for original Supra paint. The only averagely lower levels dropping to 78 on one rear wing which is one of the lowest i have seen, and higher readings on the lower part of the opposite rear wing from a small repair where the arch may have been scuffed previously. However all repair work was nicely done. Despite this being a single stage paint and not lacquer over basecoat, care was obviously still to be taken with a lower reading of 78 microns.

So, front wing taped up in preperation for machining, and again using Meguiars M205. You were literally watching the colour of the paint change as you machined

Unpolished under LED light

And the polished side, much more clarity in the paint

All paint was carefully IPA'd to remove polishing oils and be squeeky clean. After discussing options with the owner, the first of 2 applications of Collinite was applied. An older product but extremely durable

image

This was then buffed off and left to fully cure before second application, meanwhile i cracked on with other tasks. Such as polishing the exhaust

image

image

Treating all exterior rubbers and plastics with Bumper Care

image

image

Glass polished inside and out with 3M Glass Cleaner

image

Endurance Gel applied to the tyres

image

Any paint not machined such as inside the doors, door handles, wheel arhes, any vents, bumper around the exhaust, was hand polished to remove the black staining. The inside and boot was wiped down with APC, hoovered and dusted

The second application of Collinite was then applied

These were the final pictures

Abz is a great guy and a pleasure to deal with. I hope he's currently having a fantastic time on the 2012 Dragonball

Looks fantastic now

Having owned 3 white Supras, I can vouch for how dull the white paint goes if left. Is that a masking line around the rear side window in the 16th picture? Seems to show up on alot of Supras.

The OZ Futuras are very special, they used to be reasonably common on Lambos, Ferraris and Maseratis years ago, often sporting emormous dishes.
