redsupraman82
hi guys can anyone help me with this one? i took her out today and with in minites i had a strong burning smell like rubber or electical suddenly smoke started pouring out the bonnet and i pooped it! under the bonnet it looked like it was coming from the aircon pump. there seems to be a rubber seal on the inside which has just tried to melt away! any ideas what this could be? Thanks
redsupraman82
also it sounds really rattly! if that helps?
straightsix
Air con pump bearing collapsed maybe? Possibly resulting in the seal being excessively rubbed? Just a guess. When you say 'it sounds rattly', is there play in the air con pulley if you shake it by hand? Try removing the belt and turn the air con pulley - also check the aux belt in case the air con pump has seized completely and caused the belt to heat up causing the smoke
Pulley
If your aircon works (has gas) see if it makes any difference when the mag clutch is engaged, turn the aircon on cold
Colin-mkiv
I've got a good one here you can have for £30 exchange, I just need the old one so that I can strip it and use the front part of it.

Well done that man - definitely worth it if you find your pump is goosed
redsupraman82
I will take you up on that offer bud, but how do I get the old one off? Are the not special hose lines?
redsupraman82
As for my mag clutch, the aircon has no gas in it! I don't really worry about it as its an aero when ever its hot the roof is off!
redsupraman82
its there anyway i can just disable it and just use it to suport the pulley? its the inner rubber part thats melting.
Colin-mkiv
They undo and refasten as do all hoses, just take them off and refit them. Then get ya system regassed! simples.
redsupraman82
ok cool i will have a look, it seems to be when the mag clutch is engaging, i know this sounds silly but could you not just unplug it so it does not get any signal from the ecu? there for just acting as just a pulley? SteveR
lol i tried that and it still comes on for some reason.... i think its going to be a new pump anyway! Odd, I don't think it should come on. You have to keep 'auto' off, too?
redsupraman82
I will but there is still the rattling sound which is worrying do I might just swap out the pump to be on the safe side
SteveR
Yeah sorry I didn't mean to suggest that what I've said would fix the problem, or be a long term workaround - it's just advice to 'get you home' / place you can get it repaired.
