Passenger door not flush with body when closed

Hi chaps,

The passenger side of my Supra had several issues from when i've bought the car. I have solved the color difference along with the poor paintjob and two ugly dents. Only problem i need to address now, is the fact that the passenger door is not flush with body when closed ( it's a bit "out").

I'm wondering if there is any way to adjust this piece in order to make the closing point a bit further into the body. At a close inspection the indicated door lock is a bit out as well on the passenger side compared to the driver's side. Pic is an older one but you get the idea.

Cheers

Alex

Mine is like this too. wierd.

Well it isn't normal... I think my car had an accident at one point on that side, as it has been partially resprayed there, which was mess. Maybe it's related to that. The driver's door sits perfectly when closed.

I really hope that this is an easy fix ...

The doors have a rubber bump at the bottom don't they? My car isn't at home or I'd check for you but you can twist the rubber bump to adjust the bump stop if you like. I remember having one on an old civic I had, which I had to slightly adjust to the door popper I had.

I'll take a look at that mate. Looking at the pic it does seem the problem is coming from the bottom of the door. However, after inspecting both locks, the one on the passenger side seems a bit out, so i don't know. Thanks for the idea. More are welcome, i don't really like hammers :innocent:

The part you have circled in the 2nd pic has screws behind the plastic cover, loosen them off a bit and push the striker in a wee bit then tighten then close the door to check the gap.

The striker moves all directions, what i do is. Close the door slowly while peeking through the small gap to see that the striker plate goes directly in the middle of the lock opening on the door so it doesn't throw the door to high or low as well. Hope that helps

If you take the plastic cover off the circled bit, you'll find two stardrive bolts that you can slacken off and adjust the position of the door lock bar :)

Forget tomorrow... I'm going to do it right now. This issue bugged me for some time and i wouldn't ignored it so much time if the fix was this simple. This also explains why the driver side lock is further in, it's probably adjusted differently.

Cheers.

No one mentioned how difficult the screws are to remove. I broke 3 China tools and managed to get only one of the screws off

However, you can adjust it with only one screw removed as well. With the upper screw removed you will expose a metal plate that moves when you try rotating the lower screw. I adjusted the plate as much as i could towards the inner side and the door position now is almost perfect. Much much better. So for anyone having this issue, the fix is pretty easy ( if you have the right tools that is :eyebrows:)

PS : You need a T30 Torx head. Outcome pics in the weekend.

Here are some pics. Although it isn't 100% perfect, it's great improvement. Remember this is just a half fix as i couldn't remove the other screw and the car did take a bump on this side at one point, so things might not be perfectly aligned.
