Ricky49
Is this the same Chelsea that paid godzillions in transfer fees? They did spend 70million on torres and sideshowbob last year, dont know who they signed last summer though?
a98pmalcolm
I gave up with football just a business now. No spirit on the sport. Just gets rich people buying teams and then buying the best players. Utter rubbish, it now just bores me!
Ricky49
Your right Abz money doesnt buy success its the players that they bought with all that money and pay over the odds wages for them to come. Do you think City would of won the league if some Joey hadnt dusted the sand off his cheque book and gone 'I want one of those football teams as a toy' . Not one player would of gone to City if they hadnt of been able to offer stupid amounts of money Hence City bought the title.
RobD
I think money is ruining football, I'm a Baggies fan so a family club that knows what ever they achieve they have to work very hard to achieve it! Same as Norwich, Swansea etc! To me Man City hasnt achieved anything except high wage fees and a few unruly players! Man Utd "made" their money on success, the BRAND Manchester United is what has allowed them to achieve what Man city have this year, not some rich dudes cheque book! I think a wage and player transfer fee should definitely be introduced to make things fair!
safcdixon
Thing is though how could you cap it with some players already on stupid wages like sam eto'o on 300k a week or messi or ronaldo on 250k aswell as lots of others on similar wages, with wages already at a high level how could you introduce it those players would have too agree a pay cut just too comply, which just isnt gonna happen
CJ
What are you on about, Chelsea hasnt spent anywhere ear they did since they won the title a couple of seasons ago. What am I on about? Are you for real? Have a look at what they spent since Abramovitch took over. And then look at what they spent recently. Torres, Luiz, Mata. Did they all come on a free? Abz
Thing is though Turkey had the best players in their country too, but the fact is turkey doesnt have anywhere near as many non turkish players playing in their league, (although they have had more in the last couple of years), so they gain experiance in champions leagues or at a high level in the own league, but in our league the amount of foreign players nearly outweighs the english players We still have a huge amount of talent in the Premiership, something a lot of these countries don't. The problem is, as a unit of super stars they don't work well together. Not fans at all then, hateful afternoon, i may have mentioned it. I'll let you off for this evening only Your right Abz money doesnt buy success its the players that they bought with all that money and pay over the odds wages for them to come. Do you think City would of won the league if some Joey hadnt dusted the sand off his cheque book and gone 'I want one of those football teams as a toy' . Not one player would of gone to City if they hadnt of been able to offer stupid amounts of money Hence City bought the title. If you look at the history of clubs which have won previously and tell me if they all paid low salaries? Wasn't it Manchester United the club which constantly broke the transfer fee records? City have done just that, difference being they had one man with the money rather than shares & share holders. If City brought the title then so did the clubs in the last 20 years. listy
And yet how many of you fans of teams other than Man City could say you would honestly not accept a huge cash investment that meant you could buy a team that would win the league? Arsenal have VERY rich owners, yet they do NOT spend stupid money on players, but DO buy young players and bring them up through the youth system. Also, Arsenal may not have won anything in the last 6 years, but they DO finish in the top four every season, and along thers have said, City with United, are one of the few teams that have never been relegated. As others have said, City have bough themselves the title this year, and the players sold themselves and all their respectability by shunning their previous clubs for a bigger pay cheque. I would happily play football for a living for what I earn now, and as long as I got a raise every year like I do now, I'd be happy. Proffessional footballers are quite simply greedy and this will never change. Gone are the good old days when players played for club pride. I would no way play football on my salary, even if it went to £200k a year. Most of these guys will only be able to play for a few years (let's say 10 years) & then what do they do? Get a job at Argos? (might not even be that qualified!). The salary I agree is now at a disgusting level. Though they should be earning a decent amount considering the lifespan of a career. With regards to blaming Man City, surely £100k salaries were in a long time before City got money behind them. Who do you blame then? Who were the clubs offering £30 million transfers back in 2001? Where does the blame lay?
listy
A player here and there I dont see as a problem, but when a club pretty much changes its entire starting 11 in one season, it just takes the pi$$. Where would city be without rich owners???

bradleyh_15
Abz most professionals now go and become scouts, coaches, pundits, radio commentators, tv commentators, agents, phisios and all sorts so plenty for them to do when they retire and if they use the money wisely that they earn they can live the rest of there lives comfortably. I would happily play for many a team for my current salary

Where would city be without rich owners??? The same place as the other clubs that don't have rich owners. People would say spending £30 million on 1 player, 11 years ago was insane, City have done the same thing but multiplied it. Who places the bar to say what the limit is? I would happily play for many a team for my current salary So let's say £40k a year to play for Manchester United. You play for 7 years & then you have a bad injury. You are now out of work, how long can you stay out of work for? Considering the amount of players (from Premiership - League 2), how many of them can become commentators? Or Scouts, agents? Providing the people in them roles stay in them jobs forever. Where as a football career is much shorter.
listy
Personally, I think there should be a cap on how much clubs can spend on players, and how many they can buy per season, whichever comes first. That would stop clubs spending stupid money on players, and allow for younger, cheaper players to get a toe hold in the game. I also think each English club should have at least 3 or 4 English players in the starting 11 as a rule (I know Arsenal dont, but thats not the point) I just think something like this would make the sport better, and make room for young homegrown players to enter into the game. Ha wouldn't play for united but another team £40k a year for seen years would be fine with me! Knowing that my career would be short I would be sensible with my money and would plan for my future. Also unless my contract was up that season I would still be getting paid so wouldn't be to fussed and medical advancements have come a long way since I buggered my career so most likely to be ok for maybe a couple of more seasons unless really unlucky. I do understand where you are coming from but anyone's career in this climate is not secure by any means. But as you say yes it is a short career an yes trying to take as much money before the end of your short lived shelf life is a good idea but 90% of footballers just throw there money away! DamanC
City winning is another nail in the EPL coffin. They have bought the title which cannot be argued (take note Chelsea ) Its been like it a while, whoever has the deepest pockets wins (or should do). Nice end to the season though! CJ
Interestingly, according to Talksport today, if you looked at both starting line ups on Sunday, the total cost of transfer fees for Man Utd was 9 million more than that of Man City.
