MR D
Hi Guys Can anyone throw some light on the following - just bought 98 N/A had it 2 weeks and it always started ok, then had a cobra alarm fitted and since then I have had problems, sometimes when I start the engine it barely ticks over and if no revs are given it conks out , other times it starts and ticks over fine. I rang the guy who fitted the alarm and he said it wont be anything to do with the alram fitting it must be something else, it just seems a bit too coincidental that its never been right since. BTW once its warm no probs on starting. Any ideas ?? many thanks in advance. Paul
Steve W
NORMALLY, starts to ~1,700 from stone cold then slowly comes down to ~800 (about 2-to-4 minutes ?) and is PURRfectly smooth. Just occasionally (once every ~fortnight ?)it starts and settles to BELOW its normal ~800rpm (~500/600 ?), then its a bit lumpy/rough until I rev it to ~2,000 then it's perfect again ?! I always put it down to it 'clearing its throat' sometimes (after all I'm feeding it all sorts of S/U and some Boosters AND mostly short journeys to/from work at 'chogging' up now and then on start-up !) [MAY BE NOTHIN TO DO WITH YOUR 'PROBLEM' THOUGH] FatS.

MONKEYmark
mine from cold is about 1500rpm then is up and down between 500-600 with cams its a little lumpy but never cut out. look under bonnet it says 600rpm and some jap writing must be idle speed. are you sure the alarm people have not been messing with it. sounds odd since you just had alarm fitted. ask matt he fits alarms so he will have an idea or failing that take it back to alarm people, was working ok before they got there hands on it
MR D
You're right I think it must of been something the Alarm guys did but the fitter's boss came back and looked over it and said its fine, the trouble is it started fine when he looked at it, I think i'll take it down the local garage and see what they reckon and then give Matt a shout if they dont know. Guest Martin F
Did the alarm installer disconnect the battery ? If so there's your problem. The ECU is just relearning, drive it for a few miles and things should be pretty much back to normal. It's unusual for the car to cut out totally when the ECU relearns but it's not unheard of. Mine has done it once.
