Volvo 240

Hey folks I dont know if there are any volvo lovers on here.

I have always loved the older looking volvos and have seen a few good looking ones like this coming up quite cheap.

I have always fancied one to spruce up a bit and make the handling less swampy, I dont think it would win any prizes for track records, although I think some were used for rallying so they cant have been too bad.

I have seen a few with the mk3 and mk4 supra engines in them which seem to be quite a common swap.

Thats cool, I may have to bite the bullet and get one soon. The 740 turbo engines seem to be a pretty common conversion too. But the idea of having a nice supra lump in there seems to apeal to me more, but im not sure how much work would be involved in that (quite alot i would imagine).

I have always wanted a propper sleeper. I have my MK3 Polo breadvan, with the polo G40 1.3 supercharged engine in it which catches alot of people out. So a beast of a volvo seems a good idea to me.

I learnt to drive in my Dads old 1982 volvo 240, he bought a new car so when I was about 15 he gave me it to drive round on the dirt tracks near where we lived (out in the sticks), was a great car until one of my mates decided to jump it over an old wooden bridge and destroy it :( although to be fair he did get good air.

Passed my driving test in a 1981 example of one of these with no power steering, then me and a few mates took it on a surfing trip to Kerry one summer.

Pulled up at the beach every night after loading the boot with firewood from a nearby forest, partied all night, slept in the car, woke up the next morning and drove to a cafe for breakfast.

I'd only get out of the sleeping bag after driving to the cafe!:D

Good feckin' times!

Still have the car though it's looking a little sorrier for itself after all these years of being unused.

That is funny, i managed to get a rover 414 into a situation where we had air between the tyres and floor. That didnt end well either.

Fantastic cars, would love a two door model (242) but can't be mithered going to Sweden or Europe to look for a rot free one. I still have plenty of cool bits for them. Strange how they were considered strong and heavy in their day, and in their class, but nowadays their equivalents make them look lightweights! 330 BHP makes one go very well indeed ;)

Poor girl, she never really recovered from that trip.:D

I only got the single shot of her as the camera battery is dead, but I think one is enough!

It was Dad's intention to revive the old girl in 2011 once she had rolled into the vintage class, which was any car over 30 years old in this country.

Or at least it was right up until 2010 when the government changed the rules to make it only cars produced before 1980, which was nice of them.

Class :D

Can't believe these are classed as classics now, I was so embarrassed when my Dad drove me to school in ours back in the 90's :D
