Guest Jon358902
I've had my Supra off road for the better part of decade. Now it's on the road again again; all seems well... but the revs whine like a rally car with a performance gear box. Unfortunately, it's not a rally car with a performance gear box. Should I be worried about something? All fluids are topped up. p.s. Worth noting it sounds awesome, although it may set on fire immanently. Thanks Jon
nige-rz
Is it a power steering whine perhaps? From a nackered power steering pump? Or does the noise increase with revs? If it's the latter, I'd put my money on a worn out gearbox mate!
Chris Wilson
You need to be a lot more specific as to when and how the noise occurs. Does it only do it driving along? At what speeds? In all gears the same. Does it do it at idle or revved up in neutral? Acceleration and deceleration changes the noise? Applying brakes changes noise? Turning left, or turning right at over 40 MPH changes noise? Makes noise the same, hot and cold? From the engine bay, or from the drivetrain? Mileage? mods? Been thrashed? You get the idea..... Guest Jon358902
Thanks for the replies. Only mod is a back box . 64k miles. Turning has no effect Noise is is consistent across acceleration and deceleration. Also consistent Across all revs and speeds. It's only when moving which is what makes my think gearbox? Brake makes no difference. Same hot and cold. I'd be lieing if I had I haven't given it a bit of a thrashing. Had a bit of a sticky cylinder problem since getting it on the road, but it seems to have freed up now. Cheers, Jon
Chris Wilson
Sticking cylinder as in brake caliper? From what you say I would suspect hub bearing or a still partly seized caliper or caliper slider.
