Mattross1313
Hey folks, I have had a search but only found a thread from many moons ago. I have an AbFlug repliaca bonnet on my Sup' which i think is fibreglass (?). The bonnet also has a pair of aerocatches at the front which are using the bonnet stay mounts. So my bonnet stay lives in the boot which is most annoying. So, my question is can you use stock bonnet gas struts? Or will these be too powerful and cause damage to the bonnet? I have found some on ebay for £ or so but reckon they are gassed for stock bonnets. Sorry for the rambling, Matt
Tyson
They are very rare those struts being they never made them If you want aftermarket ones then yes you can but you need to buy ones which are built to deal with the weight of the bonnet, so you either need custom made ones or find ones from a car with a similar weight boot / bonnet. hodge
I've got an ab-flug bonnet with bonnet struts and it works fine.
Mattross1313
Thanks guys, Hodge, are the ones you have fitted the same as you would fit to a regular bonnet or custom? As supraman says they might need to be less powerful. Matt
hodge
Nope there just regular eBay bonnet dampners. Nothing special.
Robzki
As the stock bonnet is very light anyway, it would be rare to find an aftermarket bonnet that is so much lighter that the struts would cause damage.
suprasize
Just an idea but Paul Whiffin stocks bonnet dampers for a reasonable price, very good bit of kit
