AndrewOW
This morning while driving home, I had a plume of smoke and a strong electrical smell come at me from behind the dashboard. Once I'd managed to get the dash panels off, I noticed that a lighting EARTH wire had been fried right back to it's junction point just beyond a cable tie area. I took the car to a local car electrician, who managed to sort out the earth cable, but we could not get the El-glow dials to work again, and when I flash my lights, the stereo rejects the connected iPhone USB. I have no dashboard illumination, but everything else works, and there is a 12v feed to the dials. I haven't got the original dials and bulbs to hand, so testing the circuit is not possible, unless I can borrow a set of dials. Does anyone have any idea what could be causing the problem, or recommend someone that I could take the car to in the south east? Desperate isn't the word! merckx
If you're that desperate you could always use a small led bike light, they're very compact nowadays. My El glow dials stopped working some time ago. I haven't got around to looking for the fault as the car is off the road. AndrewOW
The funny thing is that when the headlights are off the odo light is on (LCD), but when headlights are turned on, the LCD goes off. The automatic dimmer setting isn't working, or is compromised somehow.
