Europen Supra meet no. 2 - ideas plz

While at the European supra meet in Denmark last weekend, we were talking with a few of the organisers about the next one. They suggested it would be good to host it here in the UK.

Now I suggested we hire somewhere like Thorney Island as it has the runway for 1/4 miles, Its guarded so no chavs or pikeys gate crashing, no noise limits (I think) and above all ive heard its relatively cheap.

Your ideas please.

That'd be great!

I know for sure that Erik, Michael and I would be there, and a lot of other mkIII owners from Denmark would probably be up for the trip too...

And as soon as other Supra-owners around Europe get word of how great a meet we had in Denmark the support for the next one would probably be better too

but then people coming from dover on the euro star wouldnt be very happy (espically if they come from turkey or something :D). And if they get ferry across they can get one to southampton.

what was at the last european meet, did they have drag strip? what happens is it all park up and look round at stands etc...

Yeah but on the last one in denmark ... didnt UK people travel through France, Germany, Denmark etc to get there ... quite a few miles I think. As far as camping ... they have plenty of surrounding land so its just a case of asking if they do it

Indeed a whole 4 supras (all marques at that) from the UK made it!!! ;)

Camping site sounds good, do you have a handle on facilities like showers?

Oh, Euro Supra Meet UK, count me in.

Depending on dates I would like to join the org commitee.

This will not be a one man org event, we need volunteers to do a little of the work each.

We could make this a most excellent event if we plan now and Faye has my full support.

Basically we would have the following needs if I am thinking straight:

LOCATION

Post: Location Co-ordinator

Responsibilities: Books, authorises and manages the grounds, shower and toilet facilities on behalf of the club. Has final word on what can and cannot occur within grounds.

REFRESHMENTS AND MEALS

Post: Catering Co-ordinator

Responsibilities: Ensures food and drink are available, either as part of the costs or invites local venders to sell on site.

PROGRAMME

Post: Programme Co-ordinator

Responsibilities: Organises all events for the period of the Meet and liases with any outside agencies for 3rd party demos

COMPETITION CONTROL

Post: Competition Co-ordinator

Responsibilities: Orgainises, manages and is the final judge of all competition matters within the programme, working to the Programme Co-ordinator.

As for venue, we discussed whether we should use a DRAG or CIRCUIT location. Personally I think CIRCUIT would be better, its more entertaining and you can chose when to join in, what class to drive round with and its a group activity.

I am happy to assist in PROGRAMME or COMPETITION planning, (I know little of catering !)

Also the commitee should aim to meet up in good time to book the event for next year, as locations can get pre-booked early and we must secure the location before anything else.

Let put some club support behind this - but don't be afraid to advertise and accept assistance from our other Supra buddies on other forums :)

There needs to be an overall director of this event who takes responsibility for final decisions where co-ordinators disagree.

Right - crack on and shout if you need me :)

I may regret this after my experience of the Christmas party last year but I'll help out too if needed.

Before we all go mad coming up with ideas, why don't we have a word with the MKIII and MKII guys and get them interested - they may have some useful contacts.

I wish I had gone to Denmark now, after speaking to Faye and Keith on Tuesday. It sounded like it was a good trip

Great idea to hold a meet over here. It doesn't matter to me where it is, I will be there.

I hope the Danish guys bring their sisters over here when they come :innocent:

edited to add - If I can be of help in anyway also with the organising. give me a shout!!

I think we need to organise a committee first.

The we can thrash out what is and isnt a good idea for a venue, shortlist a few and work from there.

Personally I would love a track of sorts but this comes with a lot of baggage - more marshalls than a drag, more chance of an off ect. but this sort of thing needs to be discussed by a committee in person rather than online.
