Hi Guys put a thread up about this few months ago. I have now passed my BOSIET, MIST and EEC additional Norwegian training, so now I just need that helping hand to get my foot in the door, If any one has any information or advice to getting a career in the offshore oil and gas industry I would be really grateful.

Regards Paul

Firstly, i'll need to explain the two main types of jobs offshore. Firstly, and your best shot at getting offshore is "Rig Crew" who are the guys that work for the company that actually own the Rig ie Transocean, Ensco, Rowan etc. The second type is "Service Personnel", they include all the different companies that provide a service for the Rig contractors ie Cementers, Wireliners, MWD's etc etc. Your best bet and easiest route would be too find a recruitment agency and give your CV to them. The recruitment agencies then "loan" you out to different rigs as a Roustabout mainly (starting point for all Rig crew), then after a few trips, if you've done a good job you will be offered a full time place on the rig wherein your contract will be shifted over from the Agency to the Rig Company. If you wanted to try maximise your chances, you could also send in your CV to all the different Service companies, of which there are many, basically saying you are looking to start offshore and see if anyone gets back to you. Do you have your offshore Survival and Medical? Also, do you have a Trade?

Do you have your offshore Survival and Medical?

he's got his Bosiet, mist and noggie extension. That should be enough for now. Any company he start work with will put him through a medical so no point spending money doing his own one.

Paulj1 Get yourself onto websites like oil careers, oil and gas people etc etc. And apply for every single job going. Ensure you have a decent C.V made up too. By applying for every job you give yourself more chance at getting something. Even if you have no experience of the job apply anyway. you'll get a shit load of no's . But it only takes one interview and one yes and thats you offshore.

Also dont bother about what it is your gonna , or what you want to do. It's all about getting that all important 1st few trips. Take any job and do it with a smile on your face. Cause once you've been offshore you can see what jobs there are and then decide what you would prefer to move into.

Thats what I did 7 years ago and I'm now working a 2 on 4 off rotation in norway in a job I love with a great bunch of guys, make a fortune and have absolutely zero responsability.

It's all about patience and perseverance. keep applying to anything you see advertised and best of luck with the job hunting.

Agree with above, send your cv EVERYWHERE, I never got a reply from 1/10th of the folk I contacted. Getting offshore isn't that easy, people want experience but you can't get that without going offshore. The other thing I'd think about is whether you want to work rotation or ad-hoc. Rotation on the north sea is usually 2 on 2 off or 3 on 2 off depending on who/how you work for. I wouldn't hold my breath for getting a 2 on 4 off though lol. Ad-hoc has you going offshore as and when required. Personally I'd look into wireline (Schlum, Baker, Qserv or Halli) as they take operators on and train you on tools on the job. You can then take this with you to other jobs and get the hell out of the north sea to somewhere more interesting. Also don't discout the smaller companies as you'll get better pay and get trained up faster as they specialise on fewer tools and have fewer guys (faster progression)

I think i would prefer 2 on 2 off as can plan things that way I also really want a career rather then a job too and one that pays fairly well as I so need to go single turbo :D cheers again

Not every company will put him through his Survival though, the agency in Great Yarmouth where i live expect you too have your medical and Survival. Also, if they have a space to fill and its between him and other people, the other guys have their medical and Survival, they're going to choose them over him.

Try to make your CV stand out a bit rather than just blocks of text. On mine, i have a light blue colour behind the text and its split across the page so stands out alot more. It sounds gay but it looks good and immediately makes me stand out from the crowd. Every little bit helps imo.

his bosiet is his survival !!! Basic offshore safety induction and survival training.... so no need to expect companies to put him through it.

as far as medicals go I'd just save the money and wait. An agency that wants someone with a medical is likely gonna send that person offshore on short notice and within 24-48 hours of the phone call to somewhere for a one off trip.
