Suspension Setup

Recommended Posts

Does anybody know or recommend what settings to use for the Suspension?

Going to get the Tracking done

TRD Bilstein Shocks-- Fixed rate Made by BILSTEIN

TRD Springs -- Front K=117.6N/mm

Rear K=49.0N/mm

Currently I have an issue with front inside excessive tyre wear

What I would like to know is

Front:

• Camber - X degrees +/- X

• Caster X +/- X degrees

• Toe

Rear:

• Camber -

• Toe

Settings for the suspension and settings for the tracking are two different ball games.

Tracking for stock suspension settings is parallel.

I just taught it is regarded as Suspension setup considering the tie rods, camber arms are suspension componets

I am confused when you say "Tracking for stock suspension settings is parallel" ?

Camber negative 0 degrees 30 minutes + or - 45 minutes

Caster 3 degrees 30 minutes + or - 45 minutes

Toe in 0 degrees + or - 12 minutes

Rear

Camber negative 1 degree 30 minutes + or - 45 minutes

My set up is this .

Front

Camber negative 1 degree

Caster 4 degrees

Toe in total 0 degrees 7 minutes

Rear

Camber negative 2 degrees

Toe in total 0 degrees 27 minutes

My rears have worn very well and are pretty even across the whole width of the tyre, the

fronts have wear on the inner edge but not very bad and the car drives very nicely and

feels very stable

I have major problems with wear on the front tyres, it is strange as it is literally only the inside 1"-1 1/2", This part of the tyre wears through to the wire while the rest of the tyre is pretty much evenly worn with 4-5mm of tread left when the tyres need replacing. I would have thought that if this was a tracking/geo issue the tyre would be worn evenly from lots of tread on the outside to none on the inside? The only thing I can think is that the plastic arch liner is rubbing when the car is at speed and is forced down slightly by airflow. I'm confused.

It'll be your geometry for sure, has it ever been checked, what is it now.

I'd guess your fronts are toe ing out rather than parallel or a bit

of toe in

I am the same ;(

The same as in fitting shocks or the damage to the inside edge? I haven't seen any mention of strange wear like mine its generally the whole tyre that wears unevenly. would be nice if someone else has the same problem

At least get the tracking done even using simple tracking sticks, unless you have a mechanical

issue then my money would be on your fronts are toe ing out which will scrub the inner edge of the

tyre, if its too much toe in then you scrub the outer edge.

Same would apply to the rears and if the rears were toe ing out your car would oversteer

Too much camber will also hurt the inner edges

inside edge on my fronts , rest of the tyre wears at a good even rate but my front inside edges now are down to the wire. I still have roughly 3mm based on the markings but the inner edge has a rip , just a little concerned about putting the new tyres on. Too much negative camber on the front of mine I suspect

When I put on the tyres I noticed it wearing excessively on the inside edge so go her tracked, as far as I am aware she is set based on Toyota Settings

Rears on mine are good, even wear so I wont touch them

Should have said my tracking has been done and hasn't changed the wear rate. I'll get a pic up when the car gets back here. The car is too low and the plastic arch liner has bent slightly over the years. there is a gap between the tyre and the liner at a standstill and had assumed that the car would obviously get lower still with weight in it and being forced onto the road at speed. I may remove the liner when I get new tyres on and see what happens.

I would suspect at the rate the wheel is moving it would rip off your arch liner if it was rubbing excessively against it; I would be very surprised if it is the arch liner

Useful info

Rapid inside tread wear is typically due to toe alignment. If the toe is correctly aligned on the lift (static toe), it is most likely that worn bushings are causing the tire to excessively toe-in under power (dynamic toe) which will cause the tires to excessively wear on the inside tread

Thats exactly what i posted for you as regards the settings just written

out long hand and in degrees and minutes.

Im not sure why youd go to 5 degrees of caster though, that would

help the car in a straight line but make the steering heavier.

As i said earlier you either have a mechanical issue causing the

tyre wear or its more than likely your fronts are toe ing out

scrubbing the inner edge of the tyre.
