RHochreuter
Hi guys, Since i purchased my current supra i have noticed that i have some rattling which sounds like it comes from below the rear sear. It happens in all gears up to around 2k rpm. As soon as i reach 2k rpm the rattle stops. Please listen to the video below. 00:08 -> 00:16: 2nd gear. going from 1600 rpm to around 2500 rpm. 00:18: Minor rattle after changing gear. 00:23 -> 00:26: 3rd gear below 2000 rpm with abit of throttle. [video=youtube;OujMsC-hOow] It's a j-spec torsen bigcase diff. (b03b). Anybody have an idea of whats wrong, how to fix it and how serious the problem is? Thanks Kind regards, RHochreuter Edited May 6, 2012 by RHochreuter (see edit history)
Swampy442
Engine revs wont affect the diff, road speed/load will. Id say its something to do with the exhaust.
RHochreuter
Hi swampy, Thanks for your help. Im 100% sure its not the exhaust. From the frontseat it sounds like its comming from the diff. I wouldnt totally exclude that the sound could be from the gearbox though.
Robzki
prop centre bearing?
RHochreuter
I will have the check that. Would a prop bearing rattle at low rpm?
Robzki
Possibly not, but the small plate bolted around it may resonate at the right rpm.
Swampy442
It may be the exhaust touching the car and resonating? It certainly won't be the differential.
