CJ
My son (who won't be 21 until September) has his own car insurance on his Saxo GTS with 2 years NCB. I also have insurance on my MR2 and as I have to go away for a month in June to finalise my affairs on Kos, I was wondering if the d rule of him driving my car on his insurance is still in force? I seem to recall the wording being something like he would be providing I gave permission but would only be covered third party. Is that correct or am I talking ball cocks? listy
Some companies wont cover you on someone elses car full stop until you are 25, so it depends on his policy. It should state it somewhere on his Insurance Certificate, but yes, generally, when fully comp you can drive another vehicle on your insurance providing you have the owners consent to do so. Animal
^- that. There are still some companies who offer third party insurance on other cars, but you'd have to check through the small print on your lads policy. Another option would be to see if you could add him as a named driver on your policy just for that period.
supra joe
If its an option, it should be on the paperwork CJ.
Havard
As time goes on there are less and less policies that cover you third party on another vehicle. Due to his age I would think it would be unlikely that he will be covered. You never know though, there are still some good flexible insurers out there. We have three cars and three separate policies and none of them cover me or Mrs H third party on other vehicles. H.

Richie1985
My policy with admiral covers me to drive other cars third party but not sure if there is an age restriction or not.
Colin-mkiv
If your cert says 'insured only' then no

listy
I know some of the companies put an age restriction on it, which is usually 25, however, come to think of it, my policy let me drive another car 3rd party when I was 23. Guess it depends on the company. (mine is Budget....for now)
Safely Insured
Hi Col, it's unlikely he'll have it, it is usually only offered for those 25 or over. A lot of insurers are taking it away now, I'm seeing a lot of reports of people being caught for driving without insurance as people assume they have DOC (Driving other cars) cover but do not. Ollie Sky Insurance http://www.skyinsurance.co.uk/car-club-insurance.html Thanks Ollie - I suspected as much. I have asked Josh to look at his policy and see what wording is applied there (if any) and to then speak to Admiral. This came up as I didn't want the Mister 2 to be left not running for the month I am out on Kos. Ah well, I am sure we can think of something. Wez
As above, I always check my policy at renewal time to ensure its still included.
Josh
My policy with admiral covers me to drive other cars third party but not sure if there is an age restriction or not. My policy with Admiral states I cannot drive any other vehicle. I'm 23. That's interesting as Josh is with Admiral too Mind reader!!
