Thomas.B
Hey guys, just noticed yesterday when cleaning the engine bay that my cooling fan (front one) has jumped of the wheel?? The plastic housing so to say.... Havent gotten it off yet but would it be to just simply put it back onto the "wheel" or would I need to replace the whole unit? Lude
Unsure whats come off what withought looking at mine. Has anyyhong snapped? Or isit a case of nirs not being done up tight enough?
Thomas.B
Looked like it was the plastic fan piece that had gotten loose from the wheel bearing... Didn't really have time to remove it but was going to see if I can fix it later tonight or tomorrow, and didnt know if the bearing and fan blades come in one piece or if the fan is tightened to the bearing. Dnk
The o/e fan is held onto the viscous coupling with 4 bolts
Thomas.B
The o/e fan is held onto the viscous coupling with 4 bolts U mean the fan between the IC and rad? If so then I'm a happy camper
Dnk
If you mean intercooler (IC) there isn't a fan between the rad and IC There is an elecetric fan at the bottom right of the rad as you look at the car from the front. The fan i mentioned is the main cooling fan and is attached via a viscous coupling to the water pump.

I ment the electric fan att the bottom of the rad Oh and sorry, I have the whifbitz FMIC.... in the middle of a bunch of work so sorry if I've been explaining bad. cheers
Dnk
Im not sure how the fan blade is held onto the electric motor but would have thought its still a bolt on job.
Thomas.B
Ok so was going to take it off but just realised I need to remove the whole front bumper and the intercooler to even get the irritating little fan off! Anyways, here are a couple of pictures of what I ment, its between the fmic and ac rad. I have not filled the AC with gas so its not in use. Is it needed for the general cooling of the engine? Can I get the fan-blades to sit on the bearing again or will I need to replace the whole unit? Looks like its been glued on or something? Dnk
This looks like an addition to help cooling, my car doesnt have a fan there and i also have a HKS R spec FMIC and have no cooling issues. My car has the main viscous fan between the engine and radiator and also this electric fan at the bottom of the radiator Edited April 28, 2012 by Dnk (see edit history)
Thomas.B
Thanks! If its not needed im happy :-) Cheers
Dnk
Thanks! If its not needed im happy :-) Cheers Just to be clear on my car i have no cooling problems without having a fan between the ac rad and the fmic, i do have a new heater matrix, new radiator/cap and water pump though !! Your car might have cooling issues without it so i m not saying your car doesnt need it. Keep an eye on the water temp if you do remove it
