Hey guys, been looking at supras now for a while and have deceided to go ahead and get a twin turbo jap spec....

anyways...

I was thinking well whats in the same kind of price / performance range to the insurance quotes ive been getting

bearing in mind this is when im 21 with 3 points and three years no claims

Supra TT - £1500 - 1800

R33 Skyline - £4400 - £6000

RX7 - £2200

(all are thereabouts)

Why is the supra soo damb cheep to insure when things with a smaller engine and the same performance i.e Skyline and RX7 are a lot more costly?

Soooo...the supe it is

Equipped yes, but you can get most things on a well spec'd Jap car, eg. a GZ comes with everything and most things were an option on all models.

Only things you wont get are 550 injectors, steel turbos and glass headlights. Maybe a couple more bits that I cant remember.

As for being faster, theres nothing in it, if anything the lighter Jap cars are quicker, take a look at the 1/4 mile times on this site.

And the cool stuff like real leather, relaxing heated seats, ultra sexy headlamp washers, important external temp feature, additional sound proofing, kinky scoop, diff cooler and more....

well the majority of supes are jspec anyway arnt they?

Didnt they bring in a small number officially to the uk, somehting like 600 cars.

still gettin one, just wondering why the RX7 and the Skylines are more expensive thats all

Insurance is a funny old game, example (the N/A supra is just as expensive to insure as the twin turbo??? go figure stupid ay??

most of it is based on statistics......so going by what you have said.....skyline drivers may be seen to be higher risk??

I dont understand it all really....all seems bollo* to me

I got 3 points last year and it made no difference to my renewal. I think they expect most people to have 3 points on their license.

Maybe rx-7 and skyline owners are more prone to prangs? maybe they are generally younger etc, maybe supras are seen as less "boy racer" for want a of a better term, cars. Or maybe it's just the insurance companies you've got quotes from? Have you tried the club insurer?
