I saved n went through hell to get my car built..sacrificed so much too...yes id like to think i have one of the most hardcore BPU supras on this forum and im still paying for it!!! But ive also just met the girl of my dreams..and im the happiest ive ever been.its put things into perspective and although my car is my passion..my woman is a million times more important mate..make the build fun not obbsessive.. Alternatively my mate dropped my old LS1 block into his RX7..bolted up an ebay garett T4 turbo with Nos and his first run made a 9.7secs at the pod..5years on its still going. Abz
£20k a year after tax will easily pay half of a mortgage for a nice house (I assume he's going halves) living expenses and nice holidays. You London lot have it bad if your basic living costs are so much. In some respects York is just as expensive (our fuel is the most expensive in the country!) and property prices are getting on the same way. Just over £30k a year after tax used to pay for an expensive mortgage (on my own), going out twice a week, nice foreign holidays and running the 4 cars I used to own at once. (a single Supra, a 2.9 litre Corrado VR6, a Lexus GS300 and a 200sx) Think the OP mentioned his GF was in Uni so I'd imagine he will fork out, even so £10k a year on mortgage is not a lot unless you have brought a house for £80k! In London the basic costs are without a doubt higher. My council tax alone pops to £2k a year, so you are now down to 18k a year. Travel to work, food & bills will come to a fair whack as well. Think the biggest cost living in London is the property which pushes up the cost of living. A shabby house costs about £250k unless you live more on the outskirts of London. If you live more central then £250k just about gets you a 2 bedroom flat. Location does dictate the budget quite a bit and I have notice house prices vary £50k purely on where they are (even if they are only 2 miles apart). Did I mention I like 4 holidays a year? DamanC
Save the Money, sit on it, see where you are in two years. I suspect you would have made your mind up by then. Personally, I think trying to build a 9 second car at early to mid twenties is daft.
Kaan W
I am saving the money. I like the way everyones working out my finances for me lol. Trust me I know what im doing I have a good family that will help me out with a place to live at in the future. I live in a big house in kent at the moment thats worth about 140km, not alot cause its on the coastline out the way. The thread wernt about whether I can afford it or not cause I can. I have no plans of moving out for the next 7 years and me and my dad work together and invest money into the current house. I simply wanted to know if anyone on here has built there dream car from a small investment every week over a period of so many years. Cause that was my plan AND the OP. Not to sound like im not listening to your advice because I am, I just dont wish to be told how much the house is im going to be moving into in 3 years when the s**t hits the fan etc etc. STUPID will be spending my entire wage slip on my car every week, not 25%. 30k a year for the next 7 years will be more than enough to get me STARTED. Why shouldnt I save a bit for my own personal leisure. Remembering this is someone that dont go out to socialise or go on nice holidays I just work hard and am keen on what I want out of life. I know lifes hard for some people with bills etc but why do I need to think about that at the moment. While my mates all go out every week and probably spend more then £200 on shopping and stupid stuff and drinking, I would rather save mine for a project car... I hope this thread makes more sense now
dude
Sorry, my dad had a 10 second 70s challenger before I was born, not a supra. He spent 11 years of hes life building it up with every penny he earnt to end up rolling it with in 3 weeks of completion. 10 years after this he got rid of it for 3 and a half grand and lost hes mind with hes passion for cars! He`s not into jap cars and calls them toys, but I love them and if theres one thing to do in life is to follow in hes foot steps but with MY dream car. Your right, I have never driven a supra. The way things are going I should have one by christmas and have my fully built short block finished by christmas to drop straight in. What ever way I decide to go after this im sure i`ll have a good future. A house is a long way a way yet, a good 7 years is the plan. This gives me chance to finish this project before the serious stuff in life. Did it have so much Torque it twisted the chassis leaving the line ???? All a bit fast and furious if you ask me !!! Guigsy
did he hit a truck then flip? your dad crashing a 9 sec challenger should serve as a warning about wanting to run a 9 sec supra. just as crashable

Robzki
Geez, give the guy a break, he's on here to ask a sensible question and all you lot can do is throw F&F quotes at him. He just wants to live his life a quarter mile at a time. Nothing else matters: not the mortgage, not the store, not his team and all their bull in a china shop. For those ten seconds or less, he wants to be free.
Kaan W
did he hit a train?QUOTE] No he didnt actually he split a rose joint on the ladder bar causing hes axle flip the car on its side. Look people I came to this forum for advise on a dream I want to persue and will probably leave with a negative atitude towards the rest of my life not wanting to do anything. I thought this forum would help me out but already I want nothing more to do with what seemed possible a few weeks ago!
