chris blackwell
I have 1993 N/A Japanese Import Supra, took it for an MOT today and it failed on: Exhaust emissions carbon monoxide content after 2nd fast idle excessive. Exhaust emissions Lambda reading after 2nd idle outside specified limit. (I have a custom made tubular manifold to a sports cat and then a 3" system to the back box.) Offside front brake binding and offside rear brake binding. (with them both binding on the drivers side and not on the passenger side, i've recently fitted all new disks and pads, i'm thinking it could be something to do with the master cylinder because on the brake advisories it said RBT front brake imbalance:21%) Any help with these would be great as I'm not sure whether this is a common problem on these with the brakes and also any ideas on whether its the exhaust system itself or maybe something to do with the fueling etc from a previous owner. Thanks, Chris
D8MOA
master cylinder is a split diagonal system so nsf and osr etc poss worth striping again to see if slides seized etc
listy
Guessing your double decat?? Probably need to find a "friendly" MOT station for it. Mine would have failed emissions but a 3.0L Jag went through instead (mines Jspec TT, double decat)
Al Massey
Guessing your double decat?? (I have a custom made tubular manifold to a sports cat and then a 3" system to the back box.) Lol Oh and your car can not fail an MOT for emissions Your car is a 93 and the cat was mandatory on UK cars from 94 onwards so tell the MOT operator to do his job properly
d_d
mines a 93 and everywhere i take it i always have problems with emissions and end up putting a cat back on, I think if its a early 93 (k reg) it maybe ok but (L reg) doesnt count. Al Massey
Every mot station will have the rules and regulations on a notice board by law and on there it's states the year required Plus being an import there isn't a Uk equivalent so again can not fail for that The garages I've used have never had a problem and mines a 95 double decat with autobahn manifold
Iky
I'm sure that the emmisions test for supra's is only required to be done at idle. This is how mine was done by a 'proper' MOT tester. They select the car on the machine they use and it tells the tester exactly what to do, when to put the probe in etc, etc. A dummy could do it
Nic
Have a read of the MOT thread HERE regarding emissions. The poor emission results are probably an indication that the oxygen sensors need replacing, see diagnostic check instructions HERE. Have you checked that the brake calipers are not seized? -Welsh-Stealth-
2jz ge is not listed on the MOT's list. 2jz gte is. As all NA's are jap imports. Also pre July 95 cars don't need cats & run a different test
Dan_Turism0
MOT testers need to perform a 'no-cat emissions test' my mates MR2 turbo had to do the same thing, when he took it in for MOT he stuck the MOT regs to the windscreen for the tester http://www.btinternet.com/~netsurf/mr2t/images/mot-cat.gif Check the top line, there is no exact match of the NA Supra as the 2JZ-GE was never sold in the mkiv supra in this country
chris blackwell
Cheers for all the comments on this guys, I found out I have a Magnaflow Highflow cat which I don't know a great deal about. I'm going to have to replace the manifold anyway because it's a custom made tubular and it catches on the steering column badly which it also failed on. I'm gonna sort all this and take it to a different MOT station.
chris blackwell
Went down to kerons garage the other day and picked up a set of standard manifolds and the first cat which resolved the emissions issue I had, then the bottom sliders on the brakes were seized which I sorted and now its passed its MOT. Thanks for all the help guys and thanks to keron for all the advice and parts!

It's a common failing for MOT testers to make up their own rules because many are not bright enough to learn the correct current regulations.
