Hose Pipe Ban. Why I Will Now Use More Water.

"When I hose my car I use a technique to push off the shampoo and then the hose will be turned off straight away. ...."

-- That's commendable. However I suspect a lot of people just leave the hose running whilst they faff about.

"Agreed. That's the government for you. Rip off businessmen running our country and robbing our pockets...."

-- the government doesn't run the water companies any more.

"The surface of the planet is like 95% water. Whats the big worry. If im at the point of turning into a fossile through severe dehydration I shall stop using my hose pipe. If this dont make sense I couldnt concerntrate with the noise of the rain hammering against my window."

-- you wouldn't last long drinking just salt water.

"ill be using my hose pipe. i pay my waterbill so ill use what i want"

-- So when a resource becomes scarce, you use more of it to make a stand.

Spot on mate..

I dont think we should blame the actuall hose pipe, its more the user really.

Precisely! if people used hoses responsibley, and i suspect that if that was the case, less water would be used in the coarse of washing cars and watering specific points in the garden (excluding grass and sprinklers) and remember you can get nifty little devices that turn the water on and off for the end of the hose now;) so it dosen need to be running all the time.

What pisses me off is the fact that a commercial car washing busines can still use hoses, same goes for golf clubs, FFS if there is reasoen eough to stop hoses from being used, then i think we can also leave out a game of golf.

I do however get some satisfaction by still being able to use a hose maintaining my fish tanks and Koi pond:p

And the illegals are still allowed to run their dodgy car washes.......Mmmm, that's fair then, good job they pay taxes and all ;)

Another point is it's fair enough if they want to restrict my water use, it's fair enough that they turn our street lights off at midnight to save money, what about a refund for each of these services? After all it's all about saving the planet and not money orientated so why not pay me back what they save?

The bottom line is it's a scam like the green taxes on loads of stuff now, people getting richer at the expense of the Great (stupid) British public.

It's like putting your Supra in for a service and the garage charges you for an oil change but didn't actually change your oil because the rusty old container they keep the oil in has a leak and they are low on oil, still, you'd be happy to give them the cash anyway would you despite their incompetance in saving the oil?

If I remember right hose pipe bans don't apply to businesses/commercial use only private use. So technically if you use your Supra for work your still allowed to wash it with a hose, after all it wouldn't be good for business showing up to a clients premises in a dirty car eh? :p

That's correct I have to use a hose to wash down some off the enclosures at work, and we are exempt from any ban. This also applys to works vehicles but for you to be able to wash your supra i would assume the vehicle would have to be registered to the business.

Your not allowed to wash private cars however I can wash my private L200 pick-up as it's classed as a load carrying commercial vehicle with a 1 tonne carrying capacity, should be enough to wind the neighbours up :D

Just have to park the Supra close enough to catch the overspray from the hose.

I think there are a few people here totally missing the point of a hosepipe ban.

Exactly.

We need enough supply of water for our crops and to some extend to feed farm animals. Although I think the blame should be pointed at suppliers instead of end users getting the stick.

Only you could manage to shoe-horn illegal immigrants into a thread on hosepipe bans.

I heard they're behind all these green taxes too.

Yep, ship the lot of them home :D Any that are left should drink their own wee to save water.

How do you work that out? :)

Massive over taxing of services etc. with the arguement of it being in favour of looking after the environment.

The price of hiring a skip has gone up by massive amounts, a tax on getting shot of rubbish. Do we throw less away, no, we just pay 30% more in tax for the privilage.

Global warming is a natural cycle, the world's governments have seized on it to make a few bob.

LOL at some of the comments. I happy to see people agreeing with me. A drought they say? Jesus Africa has a drought, not England that rains all the bloody time!

Other countries must laugh at the stupid English public. Another example the recent fuel shortage, there was no strike, the public is the reason no were had fuel because people panicked! This kind of thing in the UK really gets to me and so many silly sods get sucked into it. I will not be using my house pipe as I live with my rents and farther says he doesn't want me to but agrees that me filling up buckets of water rather that a quick hose down will use more... But I will not adjust my life for only what has been said so the car will be washed with or without a hose pipe!

If the water is low in my area manage it better. In the 27 years I have been alive I cant ever remember a hose pipe ban, this is the 1st. But is this is not the 1st time we had a little bit of late rain. God look at it realistically!!!

That's the spirit Malcolm! Damn the government and their secret agenda to ruin your life! How dare they pretend that lack of rain causes a water shortage. How dare they impose a hosepipe ban on the pretence that it will stop people from .... using their hosepipes! Do they not KNOW we have cars to wash, and other vitally important hosepipe related tasks to undertake. My god, who will feed the Begonias?!

A mercurial stand like that I've not seen since the Winston Churchill in 1940. Keep up the good work son!

just get a waterbutt and run a pressure washer off that. filter the water with a few different pond filters and no reason it can't be used on the car.

what i don't understand is why if your a blue badge holder or a business (within reason) the ban doesn't apply. If anything businesses should be actively finding ways to cut down water use with all this environmental green carbon footprint rubbish going about.

my uncle has a blue badge and i can't think of a single reason why he would been to use his hose???

more to the point if Im being restricted to the amount of water i can use, why am i still expected to pay the same price???

BS.

This thread = Jesus..

I run a comany sells water saving devices and rainwater harvesting equipment. In the South East there is very little demand as the systems don't pay for themselves. There isn't a massive amount of rain compared to the North West and Cumbria. There is also a greater concentration of people. They use more, get less and therefore the reservoirs start to get low very quickly if there isn't a significant amount of rain all year round.

I imagine there will be uproar when people flush their toilet, have a shower and nothing comes out the other end. The bigger picture is that the hosepipe ban is there to benefit all people whether they have a flash car, nice garden or what. The other option is selfish anarchy and people whording water, panic buying if you will.

I agree that water bills are high and that the infrastructure is flawed with leaks and losses but they can't do a great deal more unless the leaks are spotted. Most are small and deep underground and the interuption to the public with traffic and other inconveniences far outweighs the need to fix a small leak. It's easier to just get people to calm down their unneccessary water usage.

The ignorance in this thread is quite overwhelming.
