Car thefts by 'potential buyers'

This is probably a repost... but I've only just seen this and I think it's worth a reminder even if it has been posted before.

A couple of links below to stories of car thefts by 'potential buyers'. Threads are from last year and based on Skylines rather than Supras, but it's worth bearing in mind if you're selling a car. Take care people and keep the keys in your pocket!

The first link leads to the others so you might find more stories in there.

We had a members Supra stolen about 1 year or so (CarlS), chaps in similar description to the threads above.

He basically stopped IIRC to swap seats after he took the thief out for a test drive, and whilst he was walking around to the other side the thief jumped into the drivers street from inside & drove off with the doors open. I don't know if his car got found in the end.

I have had a car stolen before, luckily managed to get it back after a friend gave them a chase, it was only a Honda CRX but I loved that car. Once I got the car back, and told the police I found it (about 2 miles from a police station actually), they told me that they know who stole the car & for me to stand up against him in court. A officer told me, the chap always steals cars & then strips them with his friends. His actually been caught tonnes of times and nothing happens apart from a fine. I didn't bother going to court as it would mean me wasting a few days. Instead the friend who who spotted the car knew who he was and sort it all out for me.

Not rocket science ;), with the technology these days and thieves rising I reckon my plan would work, the iPhone track your phone app is awesome.

Not only will they have nicked your car they now have a £450 Iphone , you might get lucky and they will park the car up in a pub car park and wait to see if its got tracker now if your I phone battery lasts long enough you may be in luck otherwise underground carpark or no signal area and you are stuffed.

The biggest issue I saw with your plan is that if you have foresight enough to plan the iPhone tracker, why not just make sure you don't let them sit in the car with the keys in it? It seems a whole lot simpler to me...

I'm sure Jazz has an app for that too.

You mean like this?

Just like that. :D

Jazz, once they get the car in an underground car park and look for any trackers they will have a nice iPhone as a gift from you. They will most likely then leave the iPhone on a Bus or a Train, and whilst you going chasing that they will carry on stripping the car. It is better just to not give them the keys & if they a test drive then get in the car first along with them and hand over the keys when you are in the car.

If you suspect them Jazz, just say "I did that because someone tried to steal my car before & I managed to hang on, get into the car & then got the thief to pull over. Once he did I tied him up, cut off his fingers & toes & then made him play "Tea time with Barbie" he didn't play too well so I cut his ear off and he seemed to try a bit harder then.

Anyway, how's the car?" :D
