SupraDan24
That's a looooong way to send some wheels to have the chrome removed
Callaway Motorsport
We can probably do it James, is it that spray on chrome or real chrome on the wheels?
Jamesy
Thanks guys - my wheels are currently chrome plated which is the harder of the 2 to get off (chrome painted being abit easier) ...there is a company in Kent that can remove all the chrome and undercoat but it then means getting them to send the wheels on to Ibrar for the 2nd stage of the refurb!! Nothing's simple lol
SupraDan24
Are you rechroming them Jamesy or just having them mirror polished?
Jamesy
I'm having the chrome plating removed and then having them fully refurbed in chrome paint
jazz1
Next on the to-do list to bring this back to its best is a full refurb of the chrome Double 6's.... trying to find somewhere to ge tthis done was a NIGHTMARE as no-one will touch a chrome plated wheel ...anyway i have it lined up to go to a place first to strip the chrome and undercoating off, then they'll be sent to probably Ibrar to chrome paint and make them all nice n shiney again!! To go with the new wheels i've also just got some of these steel red wheel nuts and locking wheel nut set - hoping the red will set off against the red metal flake in the paintwork.... i'm also getting the front and rear calipers sprayed red soon http://i.ebayimg.com/t/RED-Tuner-Wheel-Nuts-x-20-12x1-5-Mitsubishi-Lancer-EVO-1-2-3-4-5-6-7-8-9-X-10-/00/s/NDAwWDQwMA==/$T2eC16NHJGkE9no8gGLyBQDWIYDPhQ~~60_12.JPG http://i.ebayimg.com/t/Mitsubishi-Lancer-EVO-3-4-5-6-7-8-9-TUNER-LOCKING-WHEEL-NUTS-RED-12x1-5-/00/s/ODAwWDgwMA==/z/mMoAAOxy7MtRtxJX/$T2eC16J,!ygE9s7HHoBZBRt)J(qfbw~~60_12.JPG Just got these through post i have them currently but in polished, these looks superb in red . Dnk
The chap i used on the CB750 restoration hasn't got back to me yet, while i've been waiting i've tried a few places in B'ham and as soon as you mention car parts they don't want to know which i really don't get. I've had one place call me back but need a photo of the wheels, diameter & width and how heavy they are in kg, i take it they are aluminium under the chrome ? He said after he knows how heavy they are etc he thinks he might be able to do them but your looking at £50 each for cash if he can. Dnk
I found some photos on the web so sent them these but couldn't find how much they weigh so i just need wheel sizes and weight.
Jamesy
Thanks a lot mate Sizes are: Front 18X8j Rear 18X10.5j Pics: Weight: I have no idea to be honest, although i know they are alunimium and lightweight - quick search on the net someone has said they weigh around 20lbs for a 9j wheel. Thanks for your help mate - Ibrar said i need to ensure the chrome plating AND the undercoating is all removed so he can work on them. As mentioned Ashford chroming have said they can do it all, but they are charging like £75 plus Vat EACH WHEEL!!!
Dnk
I've told the chap i spoke to that they must be stripped back to the aluminium. The chrome will be sitting on possibly Copper plate and or Nickle plate, i'll update you as i get to hear anything, still nothing from my first contact i'm afraid but as i said he was always hard work to get hold of so we'll see. Dnk
I'm still trying to get hold of the guy i first used to Chrome other parts for me who said he could also strip the chrome off but no joy as of yet. I'm hoping to have in the morning the contact details of another place in B'ham to try which a business partner has used in the recent past. Failing that the place i contacted on Friday have got back to me and will strip the wheels for £200 cash, they can do them if i take them in Thursday and get them back Friday afternoon

Dnk
This is the email i sent Hi David Here are the actual wheels on the car. All the chrome and anything underneath it needs to be removed so they are back to bare aluminium all over, there can't be any areas with any coating on them. The size is 18" x 8" and 18" x 10.5" Regards Duncan - mobile 07970 733159 This is the reply Hi Duncan, We can carry out the stripping of your alloy wheels. Please can you drop them in Thursday/ Friday morning and you will be able to collect them Friday afternoon. Price as discussed £50 per wheel. Please confirm if this is ok. Please ask for David or Chris when dropping in the wheels Thursday / Friday. Regards, David. I will call them in the morning and double check that they will be completely stripped back to the aluminium.
