Guigsy
And the religious people think the atheists are the evil ones... Just trying to think of a war that wasn't based on religion. Most of them have an aspect. Maybe the civil wars? Even most of those are.
Nemesis
Usually, wars are based on greed. Religion is just a means to justify stealing by military forces. Religion itself isn't evil, people are.

Exactly, just look at the current climate and what is going on now around the world. Was recession and riots caused by religion? War is just a bigger scale of that. Colin-mkiv
Religion gives evil people a grounds from which to recruit people who are feeble minded and who can be easily led. There are no gods. Evolution all the way
AJI
Usually, wars are based on greed. Religion is just a means to justify stealing by military forces. Religion itself isn't evil, people are. Not sure the logic is there on your statement. Yes wars are usually based on 'national interests' which amount to factors such as resources, money, territory, intelligence, industry etc. and these factors are based on aspects of greed. But your second line of 'religion is just a means to justify stealing by military forces', I don't see the link. Its your 'greed' factor that creates the need for use of military forces and once you create the need they then require the 'justification' or 'excuse'. I was brought up on the basis of studying and acquiring knowledge through science, so I've never been inclined to require any system of belief and as such I'm not religious in any way. But as I don't have any 'loyalties' in any religion its easy for me to see that religion creates a huge divide between people. And any 'divide' can be an excuse to have different national interests and therefore 'pathways to war'. I think its a fair statement that through religion and the divides it causes there have been countless wars as a result. To pass the responsibility of the installed belief system in certain people's minds on to people as a whole is not the correct logic in my opinon. Nemesis
Ok, when I said "religion is a means to justify...." it is one means. Another could be political ideology. It doesn't matter what you use to justify it, you need to whip up your troops and historically religion is number one choice for a tear up. I didn't mean all people are evil, sorry was being too succinct myself. Not at all religious myself either. Seems to me it always starts with someone saying "I want that one" then off we go. Ian C
If you miss that end of the World don't worry, the Mayan end of the World will be along on the 21st December. It's the Mayan End Of Calender that happens then. My personal End of Calender happens a few days after that, but I interpret it as "time to buy a new one"
