Sam Handwich
The ones of you on here that are contractors will already know about this. At the moment there is a huge problem with Visas out here in Iraq. The GoI (Government of Iraq) Is basically being its corrupt self trying to squeeze as much money out of Private Security Companies as possible. At the moment i am on week 13 in Baghdad and i am looking at atleast another 5-6 weeks before i have the correct paper work to get home!! As you could guess Mrs Handwich is not a happy bunny!! Still its best not to get complacent

Sam Handwich
I could get the paper work to go home if i really wanted to. The fact i i would probably lose my job. We work on an 8 week on 4 week off rotation. There is 2 of us currently stuck in country and one stuck at home. If i just up and left that would leave the one bloke in country and the team none mission capable until the Visa isue was resolved and my replacement can get back in. ubersonic
Have you tried going to an embassy to get papers? their pretty good, somebody I know lost his passport and they sorted him emergency travel papers so he could get home, if you have your passport it should be even easier. *edit* Ahh I see. bigbloodyturbo
Feel for you, I got stuck in Iraq with a mickey mouse oil company after my 14 day work permit ended and I couldn't get an extension for ages. They wouldn't even consider sending me to the airport without my visa extension. In the end I got driven 4 hours to Sulimaniya and had to wait in line at some govenrment building with my security chaps and pay for a sticky on visa so I could get home.
