Lee_e Posted April 19, 2012 Share Posted April 19, 2012 Mine is in for her MOT tomorrow , ive got a family friend who does my MOT, i asked him about the HID situation and he said aslong as he can see it has a beam pattern and isnt too high or low then its fine by him. I then asked him what else had changed with MOT laws.. he went on to tell me other bits and bobs that doesnt involve us supra drivers, but he mentioned something about not being allowed to change the interior lights/dash lights etc. so anyone (like me) with a nice kit fitted from hekler , could be in trouble. But to be quite honest you have to be a really really strict MOT'er to fail the car on different dash lights. Kilps Posted April 20, 2012 Share Posted April 20, 2012 It seems a grey area to be honest as the law has different views and are in the thinking that they are illegal and will be handing out fines. I might get an mot done shortly so its passed after this new law came in Jan 1st. If its passed an mot by law its legal. As long as the headlights are at the proper level on the mot test there shouldnt be an issue. It's hard not to get a fine though if they want to issue a ticket they will. It doesn’t mean that the vehicle is roadworthy for the length of time the certificate is valid. The MOT certificate is also no guarantee of the general mechanical condition of your vehicle. The test doesn’t cover the condition of the engine, clutch or gearbox. Not sure if you're aware of this and I've misunderstood what you've written, so I apologise if that is the case (1. The MOT regs say only that washers and self-levelling must work if fitted. However... what passes an MOT and what is, strictly speaking, legal under the Construction & Use laws are two completely different things. For example, the MOT just says that you need a rear fog light, but the C&U rules say it must have an approval mark, and be 100mm centre-to-centre from any other light, and within a certain height range, and must only be used as a fog lamp and not as something else as well (such as a brake light), etc. Mr Plod was wrong to say that HIDs will fail the MOT, but, possibly, correct to say that you could be fined for using them without self-levelling and washers.
